Hey Fellaz,

Here is first silicone teaser of our Heath Ledger Joker. This is just the prototype silicone pull we are using to test the paint, hair-do and eye positioning. Silicone test-copies help us to correct any mistakes and leads to a flawless final product.

This particular silicone copy will go to trash once we correct the mistakes, and do the updated second mold . Bob's so strict about his sculpture and his standards are so high that he won't let any test-copies of his work survive.

Enjoy!

At the end it will feature:

FX Silicone Face
FX Make-Up
Medical Grade Prostethic Eyes
Real Human Hair (dyed in correct color & style Janice Alexander's (The Dark Knight Hair Department) team used on Heath Ledger for the movie)
Full Size Body sculpted in a Specific Movie Pose (6'1" - Accurate to Heath Ledger's Body Specs.)
Movie Accurate Clothing
..Magic Pencil :D

Right now Bob is working on the face and I'm working to locate the exact brand clothing used in the movie with help of some production guys that actually worked on the movie. I already located some parts of the costume (exact size, exact brand) - and now working on the rest. We try to nail it as close as possible.

Just to give you an idea..The English Clothing Company Turnbull & Asser (who dresses up the UK Royal Family, James Bond and many more) made the ties that costume department used on Heath Ledger. It was a limited run of only 50 ties made worldwide including the ones worn by Heath Ledger in the movie..Out of that run of 50 Turnbull & Asses Joker ties, we secured the last 5 pieces for our Joker project.

We also have couple of screen used costumes worn by Heath Ledger himself in his earlier movies (The Patriot, 10 Things I hate About You, Lords of the Dogtown, Casanova etc) - so those will guide us a lot to while tailor our Joker costume parts to fit perfectly on him.

If eveything goes well, we have plans for two exciting Joker "moments" during October / November , so stay tuned :)

Hey Ryan, Bob pulled a hot-clay copy of the Joker from the first mold and was able to correct all the tiny litttle imperfections on the sculpt and completely resculpt some areas from scratch before going into the 2nd stage mold. Now that it has been completed (and looks phenomenal btw), we're expecting to see the new silicone pull of the updated Joker very soon.

We actually had to rush this particular copy for the Halloween, as the time was limited and it had to go overnight. There are two more Joker's on the bench right now - and they will be scene-specific versions with different make-up and hair-do. We will be able share fully finished versions in a month or so..

Oh and hair was a pain on this one..Bob had to experiment with different color dyes, bottles of different green shades and tons of other experimental hair products to get the feeling right.

This copy is a hybrid between party scenes where he threats Rachel with knife & the interrogation room.

if I may be so bold as to point out a few things...
I think it needs more hair. great job on the make-up! but I think, imho, his right cheek needs to be fattened a little bit. remember that the late Heath Ledger wore prosthetic makeup that makes his cheeks look fat and thus hiding Heath's profile. Which is why most people can't tell that it was him playing the character. And also, I love the attention to detail that you put into this piece, especially his crooked lower lip, which imho is still too subtle.

here's a photoshop... sorry for asking too much... :p

your killing my work bro, Just joking , Thanks for taking the time to check it out .
I know what your talking about,
after comparing them both I think I'm on the right track , altough it might be able to use a bit more fullness.
I may end up adding it on the next piece.

Bob D
10-28-2008, 02:17 PM
I disagree on the fattening of the cheeks. There is enough puffiness from the scar appliances. everyone's face is in a constant state of change, Every second of every waking minute. You can over-anylize it into the ground.
This expression is begging for a 45 cal. snubnose with two hands on it, pointed right at his head. "now your talkin". And at the opposite end of the barrel you will see Harvey.

TOM S.
10-28-2008, 07:29 PM
Seriously Bob, you draw a new line in the sand with each new piece! The hair color looks perfect from the pictures (not too cartoony which could be a real pitfall with a character such as this!) and the sculpt looks really amazing as a finished silicone pull! Hat's off to you!

AsOneDead
10-28-2008, 08:46 PM
Everything looks perfect but if I was to really nitpick then I would say the hair is a little too green. In the film, it looks to be more brown with green tints.

This is an extremely accurate comment. Ledger was so versatile and used so many different poses and facial expressions that one look may have a huge difference from the next. Also the application and creation of prosthetics may vary from one day to another in filming. Everybodys take on heath will be off slightly for that reason. I personally think the Bob's did an awesome job. Congrats im sure your client will be extremely happy with the work, I know i would. ;)

Over analyzing will only destroy an excellent likeness..;)
