So I've been a lurker for a while now and finally decided to post.

I'm going to attempt to make a life sized Magneto helmet.

Any suggestions about how to go about it?

I bought a big box of sculpey and some wire mesh...

I started off attempting to make a wire frame and then applying sculpey over the framing... that didnt work so well.

I was just wondering what suggestions you guys might have.

Thanks

You could probably sculpt it out of regular oil based clay (chavant/Roma) on a head cast or manaquin head and pull a thin fiberglass shell off the sculpt. Bondo and sand it smooth--that is, if it just a one-of. Or you could make a mold of your sculpt and get multiple pulls.

I made a helmet out of dense foam used to make fich manaquins for taxidermy(u could get the foam at van dykes.com) It is very soft and you couls sand and carve the foam very easily. After you get the desired shape an design, cover the foam with bondo and sand it up then paint it. Pretty easy to do without making molds and usung fiberglass.
