Let's pretend that IMAGE COMICS is going out of business and the creators are jumping ship....

Which of the big two (Marvel or DC) would you rather see SPAWN land in, and why?????

discuss.

Spawnm should go to Marvel. Mainly because I want to see him fight the Marvel heroes - and he already fought Batman - and that put me to sleep...

Yes I have.Im not speaking powers and story.McFarlane was just off his Spiderman run in Marvel when he went to Image and Created Spawn. The look of the character was like a rip off of the spiderman character.

Seriously - unless I have missed some major part of Spiderman's origin!

But serioulsy, I don't think that's a valid point because McFarlane didn't really COPY Spiderman's "look" - it's just McFarlane's style - and you can't copy yourself

Totally different!

spidey- red,blue,black

spawn-red,black,white, green

spawn accessories-cape, spikes, and wings at times

spidey-none

I see no real similarity other than the way they are drawn.

I remember thinking the same thing when Spawn hit. Deadpool was another character that seemed to adopt the look of a couple already established Marvel characters. I remember the comparisons being made in an actual article at one point (I'll see if I can locate it.)

Oh, and the MU would fit Spawn better than the DCU in my opinion.

I have no love of the character and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if he were to leave comics all together.
McFarlane couldn't write himself out of a wet paper bag

I second that motion. You know, what kind of writer would make a hero make a deal with a devil to get an easy out to a story.....Hell, he should go to 'Joephisto' as posted earlier. Maybe ole Joe got the inspiration for OMD there.

Although I'm a Marvel supporter, I feel Spawn would fit better with the DC universe.

DC, He's more close to DC (magical/dark) characters.

If anything Spawn shares more similarities with Venom.

Hey, are you forgetting about the "power meter"...?

"So, here's the thing: he tries to avoid using his power because he's only got so much of it and when it counts down to nothing, he goes back to Hell."

There's a "plot device" that lasted - what - the first six issues and then just disappeared without any explanation??

Yup... Todd definitely came from the "Marvel System".

I think Spawn could fit in the Marvel Universe, but he's a little too much like Ghost Rider.

Honestly, I think the whole Spawn concept sort of sucks.

Yeah, I remember that "power meter" thing. Was somewhat unique... but he seemed to lose that handicap fast.

I only read Spawn through issue #10, though, where he met up with Dave Sim's Cerebus, and they explored Hell/etc. Fun issue, if not slightly whack.

Spawn would not have a home in either universe. DC's hell dosen't need him and Marvel has too many like him running around.

I would like to see Spawn in the marvel universe. I think Spawn taking on Dr. Strange or Mephisto would be interesting....

DC simply because they need him. Marvel is just great wthout him.

If am not mistaken Todd had Spawn go to hell around issue #50 due to using up his power. The meter disappeared but the concept of running out of power stayed.

Let's look at a more realistic argument about Spawn "leaving or staying" with Image....

It's pretty clear that, since Todd's become a "mega"-businessman, he doesn't even need to keep putting out 'Spawn' month to month to have the dollars come streaming in.

My question becomes: Why bother?

I mean, look at Image's market share:

http://www.newsarama.com/comics/081020-diamond-sales-charts.html

Just under 3%??

You guys remember when Image's numbers used to make "The Big Two" nervous?
