I'd like to pick up some Star Wars stuff but as usual i'm to the party late as all the good Attakus or Gentle Giant stuff is just too expensive if you are trying to pick up LoTR and Bowen pieces as well. Are these pieces good quality?
Could you recommend a good site to buy from? And what is their best pieces?

I know. I have a problem and I'm worried about it.:) Its the lack of will power.
I recently got the clone trooper from koto in, and its very nice, if not for the slightly clglossy helmt, no way anyone could tell its vinyl when its on display..

Are these packed like action figures, or are they packaged like statues? I was thinking about picking up a couple, just to take a look at them, but I want to know if I can put them back in their box and resale them later in case I change my mind. If you have to tear threw plastic and un-twist ties, then I will probably pass on these.

They are packed like action figures, but easy to remove and put back.
There are a couple twist ties, but they are easy to manage.
The are basically high end figures, but look very good.

I assume your talking about Spellforce. Right? I shouldn't have a problem picking any up next month, just as long as they are still in production and if I I can break away from a class that I'm attending. I have a means of shipping them back for free, so the size and weight is not an issue. I just hope I have enough time that week to stop by Muckle's shop.
I owed nbr3 a favor, so I sold him mine. I still plan on picking up one for those that requested one. Or in your case 2. :)

I say got for it B, these pieces rock, I have only so far Vader and Boba Fett, (Fett being my fave) The detail on him and the paint job is incredible, I prefer this to the Attakus ones! And keep searching cause for the most part you'll see them for $100 bills but I got my Vader for $70 and Fett for $60. Yoda is selling for $40, same with Han. Check them out you won't be dissapointed.

I've got the Maul and the Vader. Both are very nicely done and look great when displayed (even though I put them back in the box for now). I mainly got them for the poses.
You can usually find them slightly cheaper on eBay or occasionaly I run across a site that has varying characters at $75 - $80 each.

Well I got the two SandTroopers and I'm not overly impressed. I think for what they are, they are overpriced at $99. If they were $45 I would probably feel differently but I would rather have a bust or statue than one these. I won't be getting any more of the Koto stuff.

I just got my first Kotobukiya piece (and my first non-marvel related statue) the other day. It's Ayane from Ninja Gaiden, and I love it. It's the softer PVC, but it's beautifully detailed and painted. I also found a store (bigbadtoystore.com) that was selling her for super cheap, $36 instead of $60-$130, like on ebay. She's great quality, as far as I can tell, and the packaging wasn't quite like an action figure, she was in clear hard plastic that just "sandwiched" her in place and was held on by two pieces of tape. No twist ties or cutting the plastic. So you could put her back in the box just like new if you needed to. I like their stuff so far, and I've been considering getting more of thier work. Her pose doesn't look like it would be one that should bend, but I guess I'll have to wait and see. :)

I got RYU a couple weeks ago and it kicks @ss! He's a big one too, a bit over a foot tall. He's a bit tanner than in the pics.
I dont think i'll be getting the 2 females from the new game though. I just have no connection to them since I havent played the new game yet. ok, i created some Statue Forum discount codes for preorders. You can only use it for preorders though. Once it is arriving, it'll be too late and regular website price will take effect. Note that the prices for all items besides Hard Hero and Bowen are under retail so that's taken into account for final price. Also, Bowen pieces have free shipping on preorders so that's calculated as well. Final price should be pretty good across the board. Since different manufacturers give different discounts and webstore prices vary, I had to create a code per company. Pass them along for those who need it. You need to type the following in the discount coupon section of the shopping cart.
For:
Gentle Giant => sfgg
Bowen statues => sfbds
Bowen busts => sfbdb
HH marvel => sfhh
DH Star Wars Koto's => sfdhk
Forum discounts are effective as of today.

but I'm not sure whether their quality is comparable to Attakus
or Gentle Giant. I'd appriciate if you could shair your thoughts on it
or even post some pictures.
Jim
Gentle Giant and Attakus make higher quality statues. Generally speaking, you can expect better paint jobs and more detail from them. However, the Kotobukiya statues are still quite nice. I think some of them have really good poses, which is the reason I started collecting them. They are also much more affordable, and they are being released much more quickly. Who knows how long it will be until Gentle Giant gets around to releasing a Boba Fett statue. Kotobukiya kicks ass in my book. I've been really impressed by them so far.

You defenetly never saw any Attakus piece in front of you, otherwise you wouldn't make absurd coments like this. You simply bash Attakus everytime something about it comes up. If you can't afford, atleast don't be mad of who can. I don't have money for a Ferrari, but I will not start saying my Nissan Altima is better constructed etc, cause it's not.
First you said Koto was better quality. Sorry, but but that coment alone closes the case. I'm not going to even coment about this. Second, you said more details. Again, you are dead wrong. Check Yoda clothes, as an "small" exemple. You can see MANY more details than you can see on Koto's Yoda. In the Attakus, it feels like cloth. The same can be said about every Attakus statue. I NEVER saw a picture doing justice to an Attakus piece. Don't believe me? Ask our own Drod. I believe he shares this same opinion.
The StormTrooper you posted have MANY more details personally, things you can't even see on your picture.
Dude, you have some serioous beef with Attakus. What they did to you? Did they beat you when you were a kid??

hey, let's tone it down on the bashing a bit. wook, no prob in you not liking attakus and cap no prob in you liking them. i happen to like both koto and attakus. i do think attakus has crappy pics but their quality is outstanding. i say this from owning just about every statue that has come out in the industry. i also think that koto is the best buy overall. at that price, you can't go wrong and they have great quality just like mcfarlane's toys.
at the same time, let's not take this personal. wookie, we are all aware that you don't like attakus. you don't need to point it out on every post. and for those who are attakus lovers, you don't have to point it out that maybe a Sideshow or Attakus is way better. It should be, they cost 4 times more.
so everyone shake hands....

I have two Matrix Kotobukiya figures...Agent Smith and Neo (the Reloaded one). You can probably get both of them pretty cheap on ebay. I bought them because I like the poses. The quality of the figures themselves is pretty good, but not great. The Star Wars ones are better.

I have quite a few of these myself but I usually stay away from the human statues as the likeness tends to be a bit off. I do however think Han Solo and Mace Windu look decent. My top 5 personal favorites would probably be:
1- Darth Vader :1st edition
2- Boba Fett
3- Darth Maul
4- Sandtrooper Corporal
5- Scout Trooper

Ayane & the upcoming Kureha...dont know who Yuna or Quistis are...
I know this is a bit late, but can you post the Yuna and Quistis ones? They're both from Final Fantasy 8, I love those characters.
And I have to agree with Wook as much as I'd hate to boost his ego, I've seen Attakus SW pieces in person, and think they're sculpts are pretty bad. They're big and heavy which makes it even more obvious to point out how bad some are. I'm not saying all are. Their Vaders are the top of the line, nothing comes close to those. But Koto Boba over Attakus Boba, hands down. I'm sure if Kotos were made of resin ppl would praise them even more. As it is they're a great buy. I hate to say this as well, but I'm also in the business of 3D modeling/animation and the lot of us here agree. But that hardly has to do with anything on what's better and what's not. And we also agree those Vaders are a grail to have.

Well, every single company out there put some good and bad stuff. Be it Attakus, GG, SS, Bowen, Koto etc. ALL of them made some pretty crap stuff already. I can point out many crap stuff that came(and still to come) from those companies.
I don't agree about the Vader's beeing the only grails, tough.
Did you ever see Jabba? It's awesome. How about Darth Maul? He looks like he's alive, starring right at you. Same goes to Chewie and Hans, C3 and R2, Salacious Crumb and Jawa, Emperial Guard, StormTrooper, CloneTrooper, Yoda etc. And IMO, Boba looks awesome. There's also many pieces in the Series 4 that looks very promissing.
Koto started to put some nice SW pieces out recently, and their Vader's also looks decent, but there's also many crap stuff ( Chewbacca, Anakin, Jango Fett, Han Solo etc). And I don't like vinyl statues. Their painting are generally overglossy and it looks too much like a toy to me, IMO.
So in the end, what counts it's really what's worth for you. I don't mind paying for quality when I know it's there, but many will choose the cheaper option to save money. Koto never impressed me overall that much(nothing to do with the price, even tough it's last clone statue looks great and I like the Vaders) and I don't intend on collecting them(maybe just the Vaders, since I collect Vaders), but I agree there's some good pieces overall. And I also see they beeing a good alternative. I think Koto it's on the market to grab GG customers(almost similar prices)

You're prolly right not exactly grails, I'm just a huge fan of Vader and think they have the best ones out right now. I've seen all the rest you named, and while some were good sculpts the paints were bad, I thought the Yodas were bad sculpts as well. Maul looks kewl just that he had too much of a static pose for me, I hope GG produces a more dynamic one. Now I'm wondering if you've ever seen a Koto piece in person! lol Their paint isn't not glossy at all, it's quite flat, matte and satin, if anything at times semi gloss. But you could be right on the fact that Koto will be taking over GGs customers. I mean I love resin statues, and I love/hate that Koto is vinyl but I still prefer them in sculpture, posing, and paints.
What kind of stuff have you produced? I'm mainly freelance at the moment, and have worked with some defunct animation companies here and there. I mainly use Alias Wavefront's Maya. I'd like to get my hands on Softimage though. Plus I also do alot of motion graphics animations and film effects in Shake, After Effects and what not. And Pixar well I figured he either loved Pixar or worked for them but that's my dream job right thurrr!! :D

Boooooo....I love the Attakus Yoda!(prefer number 2, tough). End of talk! :laugh:
Maul looks so awesome to me. His face it's amazing and feels alive. Looks like he's starring at you! That for me counts more than a "dynamic" pose, IMO. The reason I like Vader 1 so much is that even tough his pose it's pretty static, it's "presence" it's powerfull. Vader 2 it's also awesome, but IMO, doesn't have the presence Vader 1 have.
About the painting on the Attakus, well, every single Attakus statue I own have nothing but a perfect painting job. In fact, they have one of the best paint jobs I ever seen on statues. I'm kind of impressed by your comment, tough, since I think you are the first person I hear saying this about the painting.
About me seeing the Koto pieces, my best friend(neighboor and co-worker) have every single Koto piece and they look kinda of glossy compared to the Attakus pieces I have. Maybe it's cause I'm used to my Attakus pieces. In fact, he just offered me an extra Koto Vader 1 he have for $50, so I may buy it. ;) And yes, the Vader looks kinda of glossy also. Looks cool, tough.
But like I always say, whatever makes us happy! I collect what I think looks good(and can afford), doesn't matter from which company. I personally don't like most of Koto "sculptures". Some of their poses are a little "exagerated", overdramatic...almost cartoonish. I prefer much more Attakus,GG and SS in this aspect. Less is more to me and I like less exagerated and closer to real poses. To me, Attakus just looks more real, and more truthfull to what the movie was. I also don't like statues made of vinyl. But that's just my humble opinion.
About my job, we do mostly editing(movies/TV/Music videos and whatever apears!) and video games. I did some work on the Brasilian movies "City of God" and "Central Station", and some other films and we are working on a computer animation flick right now. Can't say too much more. I work basicaly with video editing(using Avid/Final Cut Pro) and 3d modeling/animation, using LW, Cinema 4D, 3DMax and Maya( and proprietary 3d software sometimes). We are new(less than 10 years on the marketing, small group), but so far so good I'm enjoying the ride. :)
Well, enough talking about me! Let's chat sometime about all of this.
cheers,
C.

Haha yeah I was never really introduced so yeah. Cinefex is kewl. I pick it up when they have something like they did on Monsters Inc or Incredibles (my fave flick ever) and of course buy all the collector's dvds to watch the process. We're always watching, saying, oh they did this using that, with that. It would be the bomb to have Renderman, and a host of rendering stations at our disposal. Storyboarding was always fun, I love acting out the parts.

I love doing post production work alot more then animating characters. I hate rigging them, just a bore to me, but I love animating them heh. I know what you're talking about too, the winds are incredible and feel good. It's a shame though that Sony store is not gone, but they reopened one in Woodfield in Schaumburg.

Yes!
I tought at first that the cape was suposed to go after the head was in place, but I was wrong. Then was kind of difficult to put the head in after the cape was on, needed to use a little force to make it fit, but seems ok now. The left arm was kind of difficult too,and also to make the left hand holding the cape. But I got it right in the end

I just got all 3 Ninja Gaiden statues and theyre great but I kept them in their boxes. My first Kotobukiya was of Mizuho Kazami from the anime Please Teacher and she was sitting in the chair. Now, about a month or 2 after she was out if the box, the wheels on her chair began to curl and kept falling of the base. Not only that but the base itself was curling and it wasn't leveled. I have no idea how this could have happened but until I know or until I move my statues in a more temperature controled environment, I'll keep mine in the box.

Kind of funny that you mention the shipping cost on those cabinets. They're damn heavy and as my friend and I hauled them up a flight of stairs we joked that the shipping cost would probably exceed the retail value. I guess we weren't to far off. If it makes you feel any better the closest IKEA to me is in Seattle which is about a 7 hour round trip from Portland. So my Saturday was pretty much devoted to that task but like you said they're well worth it.
