The Monster and the Bride

This is our first of many statue reviews with Reel Art Studios. Statue Forum is very happy to be reviewing their fine products for our membership. Reel Art has been in the marketplace for a few years now and is a growing producer of licensed statues from many feilds as well as getting into publishing very soon. Michael is a very good person to deal with, as well as ensuring that the product his company is producing is of very good quality. We got to hang out at the NYCC for the first time in years and he is a pleasure to talk with.

Our first pieces we are going to review are from the line called Paquet’s Cabinet of Curiosities. We bring you the Monster and the Bride.

These are William Paquet’s version of classic monsters from literature/movies. The come in a full color printed box that use the Monster as the main logo for the box top as well as a very cool sepia style photo of three of his creations on the back. On the front you will find the full color picture of the horror contained inside. On the bottom you will find as in many lines the number (these are a run of 500) of the statue as well as the real art logo and the Dark horse comics logo. (Reel Art Studios distributor).

William designed, sculpted and did the paint masters himself. Once again bringing you the talent he has and we all remember from his incredible pieces he did with DC comics as well as Bowen Designs. WP was nice enough to show SF this line when he and Michael first announced this fine line of collectibles.

I am going to review both of these together since they are a match made in a twisted mind. Inside each box you will find the typical Styrofoam insert we are all used to. Each piece is also inside a plastic bag for added protection. Included in the box is a “post card” picture of the piece as well as a description written by WP on how he came up with these versions. I found this a very cool touch that allows you into the mind of the sculptor to understand how he thought up these cool versions of classic monsters.


Both the Monster and the Bride sit upon closely matching bases that incorporate a name plate. A bit of stone as well as the coolest homage to the old horror movies a large transformer. From that point you can see their old school counterparts a tiny bit but after that WP did an entirely new version of both.

WP has taken the Monster and modernized him. Gone are the bolts on the neck and now there is the look of a steel spine. There is now the wire that goes to his forehead to what appears to be a cybernetic interface, right below the stylized metal staples. Below his heart appears to be some sort of super pace maker. Also gone are the tattered rags that he wore and in their place is one hell of a stylish leather jacket, giving him the biker from hell look. He now looks tougher, faster and one heck of a lot cooler, you know he can mix it up with the best of the creatures now. I could see him on a Fat Boy riding after the villagers scaring the heck out off them. NO more burning this monster in his home, WP’s Monster will bring the pain to them now! You can see the old Monster for sure but WP twists him into what he thinks one bad a$$ mixture of parts should be

Now the Bride is an all new twist. This gal is HOT! WP sculpted an angelic face with smooth lines. That then blended via stitches to one hell of a hot body. This Bride is racked, stacked and fully packed. She has been given an updated wardrobe. Gone is the flowing white gown and in its place is a leather corset squeezing her in the right places. There is also a leather shoulder “pad” that has that cybernetic look with a nice bit of metal leading into a collar. She also is sporting a modern purple coif with even more cybernetic parts in a cool headband. He also gave her exterior wired arteries on both sides of her neck leading right into the base of her jaw. Even with the additional hardware she is a looker for sure.

The retail for $69 each and $10 for shipping. A fair deal for something with a run of 500, that also captures the stylized versions of a sculptor whose work we all have enjoyed for years.
