wowsers, are some of those cabinets built into the walls?

Yeah. When I finished my basement I put up a double deep wall and made some built in display cases. It held all of the phase 1 busts and looked great at the time. They have been long outgrown though - I had to expand since then... to say the least.

right?

Thanks. Yeah, Ikea has some affordable display options. Having things enclosed is a big thing for me. I have a couple of boys so not having things out is an issue. They are good and understand not to touch, but boys will be boys right? It is company and the kids friends that stress me out. :(

The Ikea Bertby's are great for the mini busts and smaller items. There are a lot of adjustable shelves and I really like the glass doors. It would be nice if they were a little deeper to accept some larger pieces but they are great for most of what I have.

Bertby's are designed for media storage (they look bigger than they really are on Ikea's site) so I doubt you'd fit any FS statues in there. The shelves are only rated to 7lbs. max.

They came with 9 glass shelves each. They are not that big though - only about 12" wide and about 6 1/2" deep. They are great for smaller items like MBs, but are too small for FSs.

Yeah, they contain lead. I think the warning on them says something to the effect of keep away from children. Probably a good idea to wash your hands after handling them I would guess, but I can't see them doing much harm on display.

Took my first ever trip to Ikea last week to pick up a couple of Detolfs and a Bertby. Those Bertbys have got to be the ultimate mini-bust display system. It's like they were built for MBs instead of CDs and DVDs. The infinately adjustable shelves are a real headache-saver and except for the really large busts (like Ka-Zar & Devil Dinosaur) they hold and display everything beautifully.
I wasn't as thrilled with what you have to go through shopping at Ikea. First you go up to the 3rd floor to get the row and bay number of what you want, then they send you through this absolutely serpentine route through the whole building until you finally get to the warehouse on the ground floor. Then you not only end up having to load the 100lb. cartons onto the cart by yourself, but the checkout is even self-serve. Aside from someone to turn the lights on in the place in the morning, they really don't need any other employees since you do everything yourself anyway. It was such an aggrivating experience that I picked up an extra Detolf and stuck it under my bed just to avoid having to go back there in 6 months. Now that I have everything set up and filled with MBs, I have to admit nobody does display cabinets like Ikea. A measly $59 for something with the capacity of a Detolf is an amazing value and the Bertby sure looks more expensive set up than it's $99 price tag would indicate.

I like the way you've set up those Bertby's side by side like that. It looks almost museum-like. I'm still working on my display after spending the last 2 weeks renovating my living room/display area. I have about 20 more busts to add to it and will post a few pictures when I consider the project (mostly) finished.

Another nice thing now is that you can look up an item online and it shows stock quantities as well as row / section numbers. I avoid the showroom if possible - its like a rat maze with 500 too many rats in it. It's amazing to see so many stupid people in one place - all leaving their carts blocking the way, walking like seniors with 2 broken legs, or just standing and talking in the worst possible places.

Thanks! :thumbs2: I just had them that way to take a pic of my latest additions from the LCS. Then comes the challenge of trying to work them in with the rest of the collection. Who should they go with, where will they physically fit, what has to be rearranged to make room, etc. I worked them all in but the Super-Adaptiod - he is just too damned big. He's going to take some major rearranging to fit in, or another display case.:banghead:

I agree. It looks pretty cool, but looks very small compared to the Bowen, Hard Hero, Marvel Milestones, etc. I didn't realize how much smaller it was when I ordered it, until I actually got it home and got it out of the box.

Another pic of the Hulk. Bought on Ebay from a sculpter in Argentina. I would like to make a base for him, but looks pretty good I thought.

 Not exactly. I over extend myself from time to time but have bought all of this stuff over a long period of time. I also sold off quite a few other collectibles (like my vintage Star Wars action figure collection) to turn around and buy these.

Thanks. I should spend some time and take updated pics of everything. It seems like every time I get a new bust that there is some rearranging for groupings and for what will physically fit together. Looking back at some of these old pics is funny because it no longer looks like that.:vortex:
