Hi All, I have been commissioned to do a life size Bruce Lee,(bust) I have the idea of what movie I want, but would like get the publics opinion.
this is a licensed bust.
I would need to know
pose people would like to see
Movie
facial expression.
I want to sculpt the best bust I can for the company and for the collectors
Thanks
Has the great Bobby C been signed up by Sideshow???
Whatever is decided on the Lee sculpt, I'm very confident your gonna hit it to back of the net
thx217

Bobby C vs. Arnie Kim! This is gonna be very interesting!
Howard didn't nail it, CM didn't nail it and the Sideshow PF was a total crap. No western sculptors nailed the likeness. Bobby, you are the only hope besides Kim.
This is what I'd like to see. I think this one will work though the pic has been photoshopped. The gesture, pose and expression are all there.

Hi Bobby, I have a huge collection of Bruce Lee books and magazines, so if I can be of any help with pics or anything, give me a shout. For me it either has to be Enter the Dragon or Way of the Dragon (Return of the Dragon in the US). If it isn't a smiling portrait he needs the pursed lips or the curled lip at least. All the busts I've seen up to now have been straight faced. Have a look at a few drawings that I ws inspired to create during my teens.

Awesome awesome news! One of the best sculptors creating the legend. Those are good poses but I would think they would look a bit awkward as a bust. I would much rather a museum pose. Something like these:

Congratulations on the comission Bobby! I have no doubt that you will produce the defining portrait of Bruce Lee - no matter what pose you choose to depict him in! From a personal standpoint, I have to agree with AsOneDead - it should probably be an museum pose. So many of the action poses of Bruce Lee rely on the position of his hands to convey the drama of the moment (pretty hard to express in a bust unless you include a hand in relation to the bust ! ). Whatever pose you choose to base your sculpt on, I can't wait to see it!

Enter the Dragon Lee is my fav!
I'd say, go for a different pose than the norm. I would use nunchucks in his pose. There's already a few pieces that have the classic Lee stance.

Enter the Dragon. Yup. Nothin' cooler. Game of Death is probably the most recognizable outfit though or the classic Kung Fu gi.

Can you elaborate on the parameters you have been given. Bust can mean a lot of things, from shoulders up, to upper torso including the upper and lower ab.
I'm a huge Bruce Jun Fan Lee fan (as are probably quite a few here). I have a mini-library of books on Lee, and I would love to see more statues produced with much better depictions of his on-set stance and character. A restrictive bust initially sends shivers up my spine as Lee was all about the total package, all about balance and perfection of the body. I'm very curious as to what you are allowed to do here, and what you are thinking of doing.
Here's my latest addition:

Not perfect by any means, but closer than most. I yearn for something really iconic.

ok i've been searching for the pose I like best and this is the one i'd like to see the most. Calm but menacing, relaxed yet tense. Bruce in his prime.
http://mike.files.wordpress.com/2006/10/bruce-lee.jpg
it would be nice to include as much as the torso as possible (even though I do realise it's just a bust).
I like some of the other poses especially the "oooooOOOOOooooo" mouth ones but think they work better on action pose statues (like the enterbay figure) rather than a bust.

Please sculpt an Enter the Dragon Bruce...
He the looks most like a "master" in this film...older and more mature than his previous films. Another HUGE factor favoring Enter the Dragon is the style and length of his hair...long and slightly wild...like a lions maine. I know this seems like a minor detail but the hair can have a dramatic effect on the final product.
A groomed short(er) haired Bruce would not be as impressive
Hoping for the Best

Hi guys, I will be going after the game of death dvd cover pose. shirtless of course.
as for the hair , well we will have to wait and see, I tend to pull some tricks out here and there.
the bust will be very unique in design and should impress every Bruce lee collector,
but then again you cannot please everyone, I have to go with the majority on the look and it also moved me as well.
the design will give a chance to have a varient from enter the Dragon to Game of death his hair is very similiar on both , I also could not agree more on how very important his hair is.
Bezzerkerr
07-02-2009, 03:35 PM
Great News...Game of Death would be my second choice...
If my memory serves me correctly the hair in Game of Death...is actually longer and a little wilder than the Enter the Dragon...so that's great news!
Great day for Bruce Lee fans!

Enter the Dragon:
I love these shots, specifically his hair and how it has a very slight part. I also love in this first pic the little "hair points" above his right eye. He has his game face on... his eyes and especially the expression lines inbetween his eyebrows

While I've watched all Bruce Lee movies for countless times, GOD is the only film that I only watched twice...
My parents showed me the first time when I was a kid and I didn't remember much but when I'm exposed to the movie again during the high school years I was totally shocked by its awfulness...
The story construction is loose and weak, with the help of those fake Bruces and a nonexisting ending it marks the worst of all Bruce Lee films...
I felt disgusted after the movie, to see the title or hear the name is enough to make my stomach stirs.
Seriously, it shouldn't even be forced into a movie, those finished tower footages would be GREAT as a special memorial feature included in a DVD collection, not a movie.

If you felt disgusted after the movie, You obviously took this film too seriously. Take it for what it is, an incomplete film, with the master in one of his iconic roles.

Have some respect? Go tell that to those involved in making GOD. They didn't care about what Bruce wanted, they just wanted to finish the movie and capitalise with his name and make as much money as possible. If they respected the guy then they wouldn't even have made that piece of crap and slapped Bruce's name on it. The movie doesn't even follow Bruce's original storyline. I highly doubt he would be pleased with it.

How can you not watch a Bruce Lee movie with all seriousness my firend, it is BRUCE LEE!
I take everything he did serisouly and that is exactly why I felt offended by this horrendous piece of frekenstien...
You also propose that yourself, it is but an incomplete film.
But they forced it out in a very offending way, all they did was cut and paste...
To me, whoever claims to be a BL fan but still insists GOD is a Bruce Lee movie, should be ashamed, because it's not.
It is just a movie done by a horde of stooges using the remaining glory of our great master for some fast cash..

No problem V3 , I love to hear about this kind of thing so I do not get myself into a Cm situation.
I feel that if the pose has a action look it need to be carried out just as well, once I started the sculpt it was hard for me to say that is enough
They let me design the bust and base , this is what i love about this company, they listen.
I chose to make him more youthful looking but ultimately striving for the essence in the character that Arnie kim gives his pieces.
I must admit , I do like the look of the cover of the GOD dvd, not necessarily the movie .
it is great to hear the debates from die hard fans.

time fly's !!, wont be much longer, I was working on him all night I really like the piece thus far. just thinking about base designs , tweaking the likeness a bit and working on the hair which will be done today .
the piece is very big, I think collectors of 1/1 items will really like this.
as I have been working on this I have been designing other commissions from HCG so they all have the same flow , I was a collector before a sculptor and having a nice flow is very important in the same line, Bowen does a great job at that. just thinking of you guys.

Great news about the HCG stuff bob. The Rocky bust has got my money before I even see it.
Give many collectors a chance to own some of the Bobby C magic, without breaking the bank on a silicon piece.
Could a HCG Bruce Lee be on the cards??? Among other Bobby C /HCG Busts

Hi Guys, well the time is here either to be executed or liked. this is a approximate 80% complete piece, minus the base
I did not choose a scene specific pose, just Bruce lee from Game of Death, now whats left?
the hair work the smoothing of the skin to make him in his early 30's skin pores etc.
hope you like .

For 80% complete that's looking great bobby :thumbs2:
I have a couple of critiques, I hope you don't mind. I'd say the chin is a tad too big and and bit too pointy. Also the jawline and the very back looks too be a touch too square and could do with a slightly smoother radius (though this is more apparent in the black and white pic you posted)
It would be great if you could post some more angles of the bust.
This was one of the pics I was comparing too (i know it's not a GOD pic but I don't think his facial features change massively between the films)
http://s.bebo.com/app-image/7925993392/5411656627/PROFILE/i.quizzaz.com/img/q/u/08/05/09/51698094-bruce-lee-enter-the-dragon_1_.jpg
Love the overall look you've gone for with the bust also, the hand and pose work very well.
Hopefully I will finally achieve my ambition of having a bob c sculpture in my collection when this gets released :buttrock:

Is there any chance you could post head on and profile pics please.
I'd say the chin perhaps needs a touch more work, maybe a tiny bit flatter at the bottom? (though I know you say your still working on it)
Another thing I noticed before, but wasn't sure, but are his eyes a tad too big? Though i'm really not sure on that point (it may well be too small a difference to be worth bothering with), it's hard to say without seeing other angles.
I've got some more reference shots here for you to compare too (you can never have too many reference shots!)

Both pices look really fantastic, Bobby! Just looking at the latest picture of the Lee sculpt, I was wondering if the cupids bow of the upper lip is slightly too sharp ? It wasn't as evident in the other pictures you posted so maybe it's a trick of the light? Minor quibble anyway, as it is, it's still the best Lee likeness I've ever seen !! And the Ledger piece is right on the money!

wow that's very kind of you to offer bob it's much appreciated :thumbs2: I take it the name is a requirement of the commissioners.
If that's the case and the name has to stay, I think what you've done is very well executed. The font you've used looks right with the bust and it's placement is better and shows more imagination that simply sticking a square nameplate on the front.
