Sorry I didn't post updates for days 2-3 but here they are in a nutshell......INSANE!!!!!
Seriously though, my wife and I a great but exhausting time here in Indy. A lot (and I mean A LOT) of time was spent wainting in lines. The Celebration store line was usually capped off within two hours of opening. Some people would end up waiting all day in line to get to the store with the main draw being the exclusive Darth Vader figure.
More lines were to be had just to get into the panels. We saw the Nick Gillard(Stunt Co-ordinator) panel which was nice. Many people camped out overnight for the George Lucas presentation which happened in three, 1/2 hour shows early Saturday morning. Nothing else really floated my boat. Spent a lot of time just walking around in my Clone Wars Kenobi costume getting stopped every five feet to have a picture taken....so maybe this is what it was like to be the popular kid in school.
Trying to get the exclusive Sandtrooper bust was nerve racking. As soon as the doors were open to the Exhibit/Dealers room, the line for the bust was already filled with up to 200 people with Exhibitor/Press/Volunteer badges. It really pissed-off the regualr crowd when they came in expecting to get up front in line. Dealers had signs up willing to buy the Vader figures and Santrooper busts for about a third more than retail. Looking around at some of the dealers prices on some items made me laugh. I found two Padme maquettes at two different dealers for, get this.....$500 each! :puke2:
They still had them at closing, so no one was biting at that price.
So, Sunday rolls around the crowd was considerably lighter. So I was able to make into the Celebration store and pick up the Vader figure after a two hour wait in line. Most everything else was sold out but I didn't care, I got the Vader figure I wanted and I was a happy camper.
Spent the last hour of the show cruising the dealer room when I overheard someone asking another "Are you still looking for the Bowen bronze Boba Fett? Brian's Toys has one." I slyly turned right around and headed to the Brian's Toys booth since I had never seen one of these bronze Fetts in person. Sure enough, there it was. A magnificent piece that I know is a "grail" piece for some of you. I looked it over in the case and saw that they had taped the viewfinder that is on Bobas helmet to the base. I asked about it, if it was just suppose to be placed in or if it was broken. They explained that it was a common problem that plagued many of the pieces, but should be easily fixed by soldering on. It was edition #50/50 and it was signed on the bottom by Randy to the original owner named Kal(I believe). They wanted $6000 for it. It was a gorgeous piece and I was pretty sure I'd never see another one again, so I made them an offer........and now it's mine.
It figures I'd wait til the end of the con to blow my wad. But I just couldn't pass it up.
I've got lots of pics costumed folks from the con I'll be putting up on an online gallery soon. I'll post the link when I'm ready.
