It looks like Sony is finally realizing that there are fans out there that would love to have merchandise for their favorite games. The releases of things like the upcoming Resistance 2 and Ratchet & Clank figures from DC Direct shows that Sony is finally starting to give consumers the collectible goodness that they want.

I expect a mind explosion from some fans out there as Sony and Sideshow Collectibles have announced a partnership to bring the world of God of War to life in a line of premium format figures and dioramas.

Sideshow Collectibles is one of the premier companies when it comes to making high-end figures, statues and props and they’ve worked on other video game properities in the past such as Tomb Raider and Hitman. The early look at the prototype Kratos statue looks amazing and seems to really capture the essence of the character and it has some amazing details on it. The GoW figures NECA made a few years ago were ok if you wanted something simple but were missing that extra something in terms of capturing the essence of the character. The figures were also a bit shoddily made as the arm for my Kratos figure broke after I took it out of the packaging.

Being a God of War fan I simply can’t wait to see what else is in store from this line. The dioramas Sideshow has done in the past for stuff like Star Wars and Marvel have been amazing so I can’t wait to see a diorama of Kratos taking down a foe like a Cyclops or a even a god like Zeus.

Maybe if the God of War line does well we can see more properties get picked up down the line. I know I would be a happy boy if Killzone or Ratchet & Clank gets a line of statues, dioramas or even weapon replicas.

Release date and pricing info for the Kratos statue and other products in the line has yet to be announced but I’m sure we can expect to see the Kratos statue released around the time God of War 3 is released next March.

Yeah, streaming Netflix is okay. I have it on my BluRay player. I just don't like the quality you get with the instant movies. I would only watch them if I was extremely hard up for something to watch, which I never seem to be.

True. The quality seems to be hit and miss for many of the movies. Some look pretty good (close to dvd quality) and other just suck. The only thing I really use it for is TV series so I don't waste my rentals on them.

It's hard to believe making it mixed media is the problem. Sideshow has done Premium Formats with much more elaborate clothing. Makes me think its a license issue.

They should all be maquettes/comiquettes as far as I am concerned. I can always do without the fabric elements. It's undoubtedly the smaller scale that sucks some serious ass... in a bad way, I mean. :D

One other thing. It may not be under Sideshow's control what the price point, and therefore the scale, of this statue will be. Sony might have said "It can cost no more than $250, so then Sideshow might say "Well, we can only deliver a 1/5th scale statue at that price"

You never know what goes on behind the scenes.

I do wish it were 1/4th scale though. That is a disappointment.

This is my biggest problem as well. I thought they were making a push to do this whole new video game deal, and I definitely would want some uniformity in it. There's no drive, for me, to buy a lot of these if they are going to approach it this way.

if yr worried about hard drive space,you can upgrade that yrself,infact you might not even fill it up .Personally I would go for the cheaper 120 gb and use the money i save up to buy a 500gb hard drive and stick it in there.
