I'm a huge fan, any others out there? I watch a lot of HK cinema as well, buy most of my movies from www.hivizone.com (our international Bowen Knights would appreciate that site, most of the DVD's are region 0 encoded). Big fan of Jet Li and Donnie Yen, and Sammo Hung. some of my favorites include:

Fist of Legend, Iron Monkey, Once Upon a Time in China 1 and 2, Shao Lin Soccer, Hero, Eastern Condors, Dragons Forever, Prodigal Son to name a few. What do you all like?

Anyone ever watch any martial arts type anime? Bulleseye? The only stuff I'm familar with is Fist of the North Star? Anyone got any recomendations for Kung Fu type anime (or ninja or whatever)?

I loved the older Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris movies. Enter the Dragon's a killer. Jet Li is amazing. I was stunned at how quickly he dispatched the crew in Lethal Weapon 3, even though that movie was awful. Haven't seen "Hero" yet but heard great things about it.

Yeah, Enter the Dragon is one of my favorites. Got the special edition DVD and everything. Jet Li's new movie unleashed is coming out the week before Star Wars WK, check it out if you can. Hero is on DVD, US release. Very cool. But for the best Jet Li, the movie I recommend to people who have never seen many Jet Li movies, is Fist of Legend, a remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury (released as the "Chinese Connection" here in the states). That movie is SWEET.

If being a fan means enjoying what I see when I watch? Then absolutely. I couldn't tell you the names of directors or choreographers or anything like that though. I love Bruce Lee movies and the older Jackie Chan stuff. (Of course you already know that I love Rush Hour, but I don't care much for his other buddy movies.)

Fist of Legend is the SHIZZNIT! Once upon a time in China is up there too. nothing compares to Bruce. the closest comparison these days is Tony Jaa from Ong-Bak, unfortunately he's only starred in one movie so far(another coming soon.) he's like the best of both worlds, jackie's stunts with Bruce's intensity.

And for a good laugh and some great choreography, check out Kung Fu Hustle which just recently came out here. Luckily I grabbed the dvd before Sony said no one else can sell the movie but them.

Ghah, I want to see Ong Bak so bad my teeth hurt. It hasn't come to my area, and won't be according to the web site (www.ongbakmovie.com). I gotta wait for the US DVD release :bawling: .

Kung Pow was great. I also liked Kung Fu Hustle a lot. There was some great fight scenes in that one. Bruce Lee is the greatest though. I can't stand Jackie Chan. I respect that he does all his own stunts, but he gets annoying after a while.

I'm a HUGE fan of the old Shaw Bros. films..... KICK THEATER BABY!!!! But I love that stuff...especially anything that had the Venoms or Gordon Lui in it. Probably my favorite film is a movie called Shoalin Challeges Ninja where Gordon Lui marries a Japanese girl...andthe wind up fighting (comparing chines to japanese style)...he wins...she leaves him...and to get her back, he has to fight all her teachers...AWESOME STUFF!

As far as newer movies go...Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, VERSUS (SUPER VIOLENT!), and Volcano High are among some of my favorites. Oh yeah....can't forget about Legend of Zu!!!!

I have the first Lone Wolf and Cub DVD. It is awesome.

"For 50 pieces of gold you can have his sword, but not his honor!"

Word. To bad those animego dvd's are so expensive.

It may not be a "kung fu" flick, but it is definately a chop sockey flick. Word. :)

Yes on danny the dog although as far as I know there is only a french dubbed version on the European market without subs.

Ended up watching this one and I liked it. My French is not good enough so I just understood some, that did take some of the fun out of it, but I had the feeling that I still was able to decipher the main story lines ;)

It was not exactly fist of legend, but I will certainly buy this when there's a proper release.

Eastern condor I have downstairs but don't remember it too well, 'll check it out and refresh my memory..

Just so you know Sam Ong Bak was released yesterday on dvd in the U.S. I've had this for a while, and it seems like anything that the U.S. picks up to be distributed here will make importers stop selling due to cease and desist. So it's best to buy from them before there's any mention of a U.S. Release. That's how I got this and many others. Surprisingly Danny the Dog is still widely available and no one has said anything about buying that from the importers.

I'm seriously considering getting a region free dvd player...

What's good is that most flicks coming out of Asia now are region free which is pretty much killing revenue on the U.S. releases, but yeah the french cut of Danny is way better and the music too. But I am getting a region free player too as they're only selling the region 3 dvds as to not piss off the american distributors and producers. Kung Fu Hustle's U.S. theatrical and dvd release were even censored! There's parts missing and they took out blood for some insane reason. This is why I never buy the U.S. releases of films.

I remember this flick I saw back in the kungfu'sploitation 70s when I was a kid (it was rated R, but me and my buds snuck in by getting some old guy to buy the tickets). Anyway, it was about this guy that gets one of his arms cut off by some baddies for some reason or other, his girlfriend gets raped or killed, I can't remember which. Anyway then it becomes your typical revenge flick. He has to train himself to fight with one arm (I think he's called the "one-arm boxer") by this master, who among other things has him punching his fist into red-hot stones. So then he has to go up against these seven warriors to get to the main baddie/"boss" (yeah, basic ingredients of a video game here. Each of the warriors has a specialized skill or weapon. The only one I can remember is a turbaned guy who walked on his hands and fought with his feet. Well, I remember in that fight the guy goes into his handstand, and our hero bends down and goes up on one hand (it might have even been his forefinger). Well, the four of us, and all the other 12- and 13-year-olds in the theatre go wild. Furious fighting ensues, and Mr. Handstand gets his @ss handed to him. Ultimately boss baddie gets his comeuppance (I'm sure he deserved it), hero is reunited with his girl (unless of course she died earlier), and good wins over evil.
I'd love to see this again just for nostalgic kicks. From time to time, I scan the kung fu section to see if anything rings a bell.
This was way back in the day.

As for more contemporary wire fu flicks, I'd have to go
1. Hero 2. CT/HD 3. House of Flying Daggers
Kung Fu Hustle was wild
Gotta check out some of the others on this list.

Anybody ever heard of the monster flick War of the Gargantuas? Remember seeing that on TV eons ago. Hope it makes its way to DVD one day.

Let's the any Bruce Lee flicks will do but my favorite is the Chinese Connection. The 5 Deadly Venoms, Master of the Flying Guillotine, Croutching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers, Twin Warriors, Hero, Fist of the White Lotus & the Once Upon A Time in China series.
