Let me just clarify that there is no problem with Jokers Child... The problem is with JCComics... The shop that bought a whole bunch of old statues that Crozz was praising them for being such great people and everyone should check them out... Well with that said they are a bunch of ACs They had a Dewback on their display shelf for $240 and Sniper was going to buy it and they were going to give him a small discount on it but then one of the guys told one of the other guys quitely to check eBay prices and they found the one that ended at $400 and then all of a sudden the owner said that they had been out on vacation all week and that it got sold on their website and they were just going through their web orders now and they forgot to take it down and all this bullsh!t!!!! They owner saw what staute they were taking down and even showed the other guy where the box was... I bet they list it on ebay in a couple of days... Its still up on their site... They really sucked for doing that and they are the hugest @$$ Clowns in the industry!

They had a lot of stuff at there shop but their prices were insane!!!!

THey suck monkey A$$, First I thought maybe I could get a break on tax if I bought more than one statue so I wanted to buy the dew back and the 2 LOTR troll maquettes. Talked to the old guy because it was a father and son shop and asked if I could get a break on taxes if I paid cash and bought more than one high priced item. HE said we cant do that, its against the law.
Then he began to say well I can give you 5 buks of the trolls and 10 off the dew which was fine.
HE then went in the back and checked the ebay site to see what they were going for. THe son watched this go down and watched as the other kid working there took a ladder, brought the dew back down and handed to drew to inspect and package. He then wispered to the fat kid watch the front ,I have to look at the listings on ebay for the dewback.
I watched him go to the computer. HE then came back out, went to the front and said while drew had the fuc*king thing almost packed ohh , "we sold that on ebay already I forgot to tell you ". The old man was looking at him like he was nuts , he said ebay (because they have no account on ebay first off we checked, when I called drod to check it out for me) . Then he looks at his son and says ohhh okay and then said sorry. I then told the guy I dont want the 2 busts and walked out. I phoned drew to ask if they have an ebay account but they only handed him a card.
ONce I was outside I confirmed with drod that he was of course full of sh!t and now I am waiting to see if they create an account and try and sell it.
A$$ clowns, Prick$ , *#$*$^&$^, $&$^#^#^ , **$*#*@*@*@ that's what I think of that shop!!!!! The old Fuc*er even said he was giving dreew a break on teh greedo bust he was buying and his Sh!t head son still charged drew the 40 and the tax!!!!!!
I was waiting for the gang ouside when the old fuc*ker comes out and asks if I still want the busts, I repsonded,"Nope I will get it on ebay, at least there I know I will get something without the bullsh!t". HE then put his head down and loaded some fuc*king boxes in his car!!!!
I wish I could have snaped that fuc*king sandtroopers head and his son's head as well.
I did pick up a thanos statue at jokers child and had no problems there!!!Lenny may not cut any breaks and charges tax for everyone but at least he would have not done something like that !!!!!!joker's child thumbs up!

Post it on the forum and bring the guy some business and hopefully build realtionship and get some good deals for bowen knights here , but after that AS$ clown move never again , they suck and there whole way of business sucks!!!
Dont get me wrong I understand you want to get the highest price on your items adn make $$$$$ , hey General and I love to make $$$ like anyone else , but dont have a guy packing a statue up after you made a deal and then notice it's going to for more and pull this SH!t ,

I don't think this is a situation where its about trying to get "market value" or just doing business. As you said, they were packing it up. They had made a deal, it sounded like there was "offer and acceptance," which is a basic tenent of a contract. That is just bad business and a f---ed up thing to do. I'm pissed for you, (not that that does you any good). If I ever go near there I'm going to go inside and harrass them. (Maybe eat some sticky caramel and handle each and every comic book!) :eplus2:

Just to reiterate, our issue was with J.C. Comics in North Plainfield, NJ, NOT Jokers Child in Fairlawn. As was stated, Lenny wouldn't pull this B.S..

The story has basically been told, and it was indeed an unfortunate incident and representative of too many stores these days I'm afraid. I did end up purchasing a Greedo Mini Bust from them after the fact (they knocked off $5) though I would be loath to ever give them my business again.

as much as i always support sellers making money. last minute changing your prices is bs. i've had items that i've sold way under market not knowing that the price soared up. so what, there will be other items. i'm very pro sellers making money but at the same time, you have to stay on top of it. by law, if it has a price on it, they have to sell it for that price. i even had an item mispriced on my site. it was $50 under my cost. it sold via credit card. i could have bs'd my way out of it but that's my fault for being careless. the buyer wanted to buy 3 more (i had fixed it by then) and i explained the situation and that i had to honor the price but wasn't going to sell more at that price. he ended up buying 2 more because he figured he was still getting a great deal from my original mistake.
good for joker's child in standing firm on their prices. at least you know that the price that's marked is the price you get.

Totally, Drod. Just last week, General bought a statue from my friend's store here in Denver, and got it for a little under original retail. The owner didn't know that it had gone up to over $300 (me either), but you know what? It didn't matter--the store got a good sale, and the customer was happy. What's better than that?

Making an extra bit of cash here and there just isn't worth alienating the people who spend money at your place. And really? There's such a thing as fan-karma.

myself or anyone else might take or could have taken a month to ship but nobody here jacks anyone else intentionally. you just don't change the price on front of them to make an extra buck w/someone else. you can complain that service is slow, they don't say hi when you are there but jacking, that does flow too well. hell, before i did my shipping changes, many times shipping took me 2-4 weeks. all the traveling didn't help either. but someway, somehow my buyers would be taken care of. if not then, in the future. there are times that crap happens but raising the price in front of their face (basically what they did) isn't right.

I see JC Comics made it to this thread also. Just keep i mind that there's nothing wrong for making a buck. This is a hobby to some while its a business for others.
One way to avoid this dilemma is to simply stop calling comic shops to ask if they had something in stock. Just pay them a visit spontaneously. While there ...... maybe your transaction will be a sale. During the lag time while its still on the shelf ........ it gives anyone a chance to look into the going value for a specific item. I see nothing wrong why businesses should sell it less than its going value.

If terms were already agreed to and it was being packed up and then they lied about the e-bay thing? You think that is a good way of doing business? At least suck it up and be an ass above-board.

This would be like buying something off e-bay, complaining it was damaged, getting a price adjustment, and then turning around and reselling it on e-bay as if it was undamaged.

Actually, I followed your story and the thread. My question was rhetorical and aimed at Joseph. It sounded to me like he condoned the whole deal so I was just summing up your story and asking him again if he really meant that. While I was typing he replied that he did not read the whole thread. It now sounds like he has and still thinks the owner was in the right.

The owner MAY have the right to change the terms of the deal. (Technically, this sounds like a verbal contract to which a product was promised for the promise of payment and was going to be executed in less than one year.) In this case, the owner lied about what he was doing and why he was doing it. I always like to judge people by their own standards. To the extent that the owner did not just come clean and say what he was doing, it says deep down he thought he was being dishonest.

It sounds to me that Joseph thinks this is an OK way to do business even after reading more of the thread. I'll ask again to Joseph - Do you think this is an OK way of doing business?

Sorry to dig up a old thread but i wish i knew you guys had this going about JCcomics, cause lockford88 told me bout it and i just have to chime in.

I lived in NJ my whole life and about 4 towns away from these scum bags, and everything you said about these guys is true. When i was younger and in high school with my new license, i would take trips to various comic shops. I hit JC once and the father of the store (who owned it at the time) would push Joe Linser crap on me. i fought with the father and the mother who was working there, trying to let them know i hate the guys art and i don't care if you know him i wont buy any of his crap. Well these bastages got so mad at me for my opinion and kicked me out of the store. The guy could not understand why i didn't like Joe Linser art and why i could care less if he had signed comics/art for sale. I was friggin like 18 years old, with $10 to my name and he wanted me to buy a friggin $6,000 original art signed buy JoeL. WTF was going thru his mind???

As for the statue thing, he has pulled that S**T on me a few times and i vowed never ever ever to return to his store again. Few months back i had no choice to hit his store, cause a old collage buddy was looking for any early CGC Amazing spidey for his fathers birthday. So a few LCS told me JC has some, so i figured since it was for my friends father i would take a trip over. I got into the store and asked if he's got AMS GCGed, and the piece of **** guy told me we have a few, but they are expensive. So i told him, thats kewl can i see them. He went on to telling me, that they are really expensive and saying i wouldn't be interested etc.... So i stopped him and said, are you implying i don't have money to spend to buy a CGCed AMS? He said i am not going to pull them out just so you can look at them and not buy anything. I was like WTF are you talking about, i know CGC and how much the **** goes for, and after about 15min more of that sh*t i pulled out 3 grand in cash i had in my pocket and told him your loss asshole and walked out the door. So i told my friend what happened and he said f*ck em and was glad i didn't buy anything from them. They sure have a nice way of treating possible customers who could be regulars.

Another fun fact on JC, those shi*t heads hunt down elderly people just to swindle them out of their old collections. They have done this one more then one occasion. These guys have a bad reputation across the NJ comic stores and the stories i hear are insane.

Also if you guys ever want to call the IRS on them, in NJ its against the law to tax on magazine/books the day they are released. So if a Superman book comes out on a wednesday and you are in the store and buy it and they charge you tax on it. Call the IRS and show them the receipt and well sh*t will hit the fan. I only know this cause a few guys who got screwed buy them i meet at other comic shops want to do this in the worst way. LOL

As for that Jokers Child place i am not a fan of them all that much. Only cause when SW Episode 1 hit, i was helping collage buddies during the summer making trips to various places in NJ for figures. Took a trip up the parkway to his store and found he had 3 figures my friends needed. So i asked the guy how much, he said $15 and i said i will take 3 of them. He said i can only sell you one. I then went on to saying i will give you $20 for each one if you sell me all 3. He said no and i went to $25 and then he said i wont sell you more then one, cause i need these for my regular customers. I even went to $85 for all 3 and he got pissed and kicked me out of the store. Why in the world wouldn't that moron make a deal with 3 f*cking figures that where sitting on his shelf for 4 weeks? That dude is one friggin weirdo and his loss cause the figures where released in ten fold in the next month and got them for my friends at KayBees for $3.99 on sale and there was hundreds of them in all toy stores around NJ.

Well those are my stories, and figured i would share!

as much as i always support sellers making money. last minute changing your prices is bs. i've had items that i've sold way under market not knowing that the price soared up. so what, there will be other items. i'm very pro sellers making money but at the same time, you have to stay on top of it. by law, if it has a price on it, they have to sell it for that price. i even had an item mispriced on my site. it was $50 under my cost. it sold via credit card. i could have bs'd my way out of it but that's my fault for being careless. the buyer wanted to buy 3 more (i had fixed it by then) and i explained the situation and that i had to honor the price but wasn't going to sell more at that price. he ended up buying 2 more because he figured he was still getting a great deal from my original mistake.
good for joker's child in standing firm on their prices. at least you know that the price that's marked is the price you get.
thats right it's the law, and it should be reported.

glad i live on the west coast!!

anyway, that totally sucks and the store should be boycotted. at the other end of this spectrum are the truly honest shops that care more about customer satisfaction and return business rather than making a quick buck. case in point, about a year or so ago i bought a bowen magneto MB from my LCS that had been sitting on his shelf for at least 2 years (go figure). the asking price? 30 bucks. mint condition. with box. i even told mike the owner that these were going for at least $150 on e-bay. he didn't care, he was going to honor his price and even said he would give me my 10% comic discount if i wanted to buy it. wotta deal! and needless to say, he has my loyalty from here on out.

Hey guys, I just got through reading this thread, and that does suck Monkey's Balls. I dont know what happened between JJ and Big G, but all I have to say in my dealings with JJ, he has been Extremely Fair, and always willing to help me out. I honestly cannot blame him for buying something cheaper elsewhere as I and many of you would probably do the same. Joseph is a great guy as far as I am concerned, we talk regularly about everything, and he has helped me out as much as he possibly could in expanding my collection. Heck I traded him 3 MB for two FS, and just last week he sent me a free Nova bust just because, so albeit you had a problem with JJ, Big G, but I would also like the other forum members to know that JJ is a great person IMO! Again, I reiterate this is not some post in anyones defense, as I myself have shared many PM conversations with you as well Drew, and from what I can tell you are also a standup guy, I just wouldn't want one of my buddies names dragged through the mud, when he has been one of the many positives that I have encountered on this forum! That being said, Snipes if you want my Bro is a Federal Agent and can have a team set up to crash in and make that little Fat F@&k crap his pants, I bet it will be the last time they do that!

This is why I don't go to comic shops like I used to.
The people running 99% of them are loosers. (Don't get me wrong, there are a few out there who re good people with hearts of gold.)
I stopped going to many places because of tactics and sh#$ty sevice.
I've been to comic shops all over the U.S, Canada and a couple in the U.K, and have had more bad experiences with people than good.

It makes me laugh when I see these people's shops fail.
If it weren't for my love of comics and other comic merchandise....and the fact that there are some good Comic Shop owners out there, I wouldn't care if they all went under.

Ok....I spoke with VINCE-VELL on the phone a few days back....and we were talking about scumbags...these guys came into the mix...basically to make a long story short, they did the same thin with me about the CUBE SASQUATCH AND THE CHROME SILVER SURFER STATUE....SS was just 2 weeks back. They quoted me one price, went on ebay and looked, and then jacked it up. The price for the SS was even on their price list and they said it hasnt been updated so they arent honering it. The fat kid with the lisp was there for both incidents and told me to leave.....yelled at me, stated I was trying to pull one over on them...I told him if I ever saw him on the street, I would knock his teeth out...he went behind the counter and told me he would call the cops...I told him go ahead...He didnt...I left..Then he called my house and taunted my girlfriend stating he was a police officer......They had my number from the day before when I called to inquire about the Chrome SS Statue...I was quoted 325...just as their list in store had it...When I went the next day...as he went in the back to "get it down"...he searched ebay and told me it was now 400.00.............such tools...I hope they see this thread and see what kind of business they are losing...

I agree on all fronts about JC Comics. They constantly rip people off and jack up prices on their items. I went in there one time and inquired about a Thanos Statue they had in their store, I told them I would take 2 if they could knock off a couple dollars and the douche fat kid told me they do not discount anything unless you are spending thousands of dollars with them.

He then went in the back, probably checked E-Bay and came out and told me the statue I wanted was $100 more than the price they quoted. I told him that he was being ridiculous and he said that their list of statues had not been updated yet, but their web site had it for the new higher price he quoted. I then told him he was a fat retard and he told me to leave. I went home and checked their web site to see the price on the Thanos statue, and it was the price the original lower price he quoted me.

So he lied to me about the web site price being more. I will never shop at their store ever again, I actually Never go there but decided that I would go just to get the one item they had I needed. NEVER AGAIN !

One of the worst things i hate about going into that store is..They hover over you like you are going to steel from them, and they bother the hell out of you. The few times i have gone in there, they wont let me look around without asking a butt load of questions. Sorry but i just like to look and see if antything catches my eye, or i will ask questions if i need something.

They are also so anal about the comics and the comics in the bags, i have seen them yell at little kids right in front of the kids parents. When i say yell, i mean they yell at kids like they have every authority to put down a kid who wants a comic book and dont give a crap if the parent is there. Hell they few times i went in there in my 20s, they yelled at me for looking thru the books and stressed to me 5 times i couldnt take the books out of the mylars. And i didnt even atempt to take any out of the mylars. You would think they would have a $25 comic box for little kids, but they consider themselves so high class comic store. They screw over future generations with their attitude.

Tis ok, when i talk to parents/friends/people who look for a comic stores that are good for kids who are starting to get into the collectable. I always direct them to the many fun stores in the area, and always tell them to STAY AWAY FROM JC COMICS!!!!!!

See the thing about these hobbies we have gentlemen (and ladies) is that its rooted in passion and the dreams of youth. This hobby reaches into our very souls. We all understand that there is an economic value to what we do, but we do what we do, [collecting] out of the love of the game.

Well most of us do, anyway. Damn flippers. But I digress.

Something similar happen to me at midtown comics but it turned out ok. A few years back I asked to buy the Batman snowglobe were he's standing at his parents grave, the price card said $79. At the time it was going for over $200 on ebay. I'm about to hand my money to the cashier when suddenly this guy bolts out of the office with absolute fury in his eyes and asks how much he charged for it. I immediately jumped in and said the price upstairs read $79. The cashier asks if there was a problem and the guy says no and slams the office door.

Did I need to see that, no, but at least they didn't stop me from buying it.

Midtown seems to be a cash cow so while they took a loss I don't see the owners foregoing a sale (and possible future sales) for a couple bucks.

That being said, I know they raised the prices of their wall books the day before last year's Holiday sale. I think that's bogus.

However, they are a solid store overall. I have really enjoyed their online comics ordering service and will continue to use it even after I return to work (which is only 8 blocks from their store). Why? Shipping is the same price as what I would pay in taxes at the store. So that means I get free bags/boards.

I've also been to shows where I've pulled bucks out of a $1 or $5 box and the dealer will say it was not suppossed to be in there. I don't argue, but if I can I stick it back in the box and make him find it. Usually we are talking about a $8 book in a $5 box or something so its irritating. I could understand if I pulled out something worth hundreds of dollars.

Theres a guy named Rob who works there...he's a pretty cool guy. They screwed up my pre-order of the classic Iron Man MB and ordered me something else, that never arrived.

Anyway, the Iron Man MB came and went. Rob was really cool about it though, cause his people made the mistake. He hunted the piece down from the secondary market, and only charged me the original cost of the piece.

Anybody else want to do the same?? We should take it to the next level......we could all make a date and send them the same day and put a note in the box saying "you will never forget this day" or "this store is like an ass it stinks and its full of sh!t"

could you imagine 20-25 boxes of sh!t getting there the same day it will prolly cost about $4-$5 for a memory you will never forget.........we can all laugh thinking about the look on their faces as they open each box.........Im laughing already:eplus2:

basically they dont honor prices on the product, on their website, or quoted prices on the phone...the basu might say 85 but before they sell it to you, they go in the back room and go on ebay to see what it has been fetching...then they jack it to that price and told you they were supposed to update their price list or site but havent yet so they wont honor it...it has happened to a bunch of us....they are just shady....nothing wrong with wanting to make money.....but dont lie and be shady about it. i was quoted 2 different times and drove up there over an hour and a half a way both times....both times got shafted...then the kid lied and said he never spoke with me....just a bunch of lies...stay far away...

I never had any problem with them but then again the last time I bought anything there were Spawn The Movie figures back in like 1998. I think the son later took over the running of the store. He may even wanted to sell it at one time. Does that guy Matt still work for them? This guy bounced from store to store, he used to work at Tommy's Comics in Metuchen. Now Tommy was a scum bag.

I went to HS with Joe the owner...and even traded comics with him as a kid....ive run across him at the Big Apple show in NYC a few times...hes been cool with me...ive bought stuff( mostly comics) sold a statue or 2 imn the past to him.....ive had good experiences with him....at the shows...most of his stuff is way below reatil ...and even ebay...and he does deals...so...not really sure on what the problem is....i know his younger brother runs the store sometimes? Perhaps thats the problem...his Father i think helps out...or use to many years ago...and he wasnt that up to date on the comic biz....
