So I am about to start a captain America Figure, and was curious to see what you guys thought of my plan. I am thinking I will model the body in super Sculpey. Then bake it, and add the chain mail chest garb, the chest star, gloves, boots, and head in Sculpey firm so that I can get more detail. Does this sound like the right approach? I was told that after baking and then adding more sculpey that I would have problems with cracking. All suggestions welcome.

Hey krooked.
I've found that iff you make the 2nd layer of Sculpey too thin (ie little half circles of chainmail) then you certainly do get a bit of cracking.
What I would suggest, is that you make yout wire armature, use the foil to bulk the figure out, and then sculpey a very rough shape over that (noticably smaller than your character) that way you are left with a good, rigid armature and you can then add ALL of your superficial muscles, details, chainmail and what-not in your second layer.

I hope that has made some sense :)
tell us how it works for you mate!
