I got a little surprise in the mail yesterday. My parernts are cleaning out their house. They are in their late 70's and planning on their ultimate demise have been cleaning out and getting rid of stuff they don't want. They dug out an old case of Matchbox cars. The case itself is in decent shape but the cars, which were what I played with when I was young, are in fairly decent shape considering they are close to 40 to 50 years old. As I was going through them I noticed I even had the 1st edition car, which (if I remember) was a Mercedes truck. Anyways, I have visions of being able to fund my statue purchases for the next few years if they are worth anything. They aren't in their original boxes but as I said, they are in pretty decent shape.

Anyone have any clues?

I sold a bunch of mine not too long ago, most were from the 70's and in near mint condition and sold for anywhere between 99 cents to 15 dollars it all depends on the rarity and condition. I know most collectors also want them mint in the original boxes.

Hotwheels cars seem to do much better then Matchbox.

Yeah, for whatever reason, the Hot Wheels definitely sell better. Given that they are that old, you might get a few bucks for each one if they are in decent shape. Take a look on the eBay to see what they are going for. If you have any actual hot wheels, I have a price guide that is about 6 years old that I could look something up if you needed. I once sold a Hot Wheel for $500!!

usually old toys are best in their original packaging. only the rarest of the rare could fetch you something out of package, but being that the original price was only a couple of bucks, you probably won't get much for most.
