I would say take a trip to calumet web site and take a stroll through the muslin backdrop page. There will be endless amounts to choose from, and from the looks of the camera you bought this may be suited for you. Other than that it's going to take practice, practice and more practice.

Good luck!

Lighting is key and getting yourself a tripod is essential next to having a good light setup. But, that site that I listed in my previous response has all that you need to make your photos turn out great.

Once again just practice get use to your camera, and all it settings. Don't be afraid of taking lots and lots of pictures, because one shot to the next can make a world of difference.

I wish you all the best of luck!

You don't have to spend alot of money like Iron spends ;)

Just go to a good fabric shop and buy some backgrounds! You don't need much, just try the colors you like. Pick something that doesn't let the light go through it. Black silk works great!!

Here is the very latest fabric I used to give the impression of fire of Hell in the background:

For lights I used a combination of spot neon lights and direct photo lamps.

Here I used the Black Silk for the true black in the background:

And here is with Red silk:

You can see that the red gets darker depending on how much light is directed to the statue.

I am getting tired of the same old black and am experimenting with different colors.

Arahom of ARH INC. actually uses spray cans of two shades of brown and makes his own backgrounds:

So you can experiment with the cans all you want and you will get just the right color you like!

The expensive pro backgrounds are great but why spend the money when you can make one for yourself for a fraction of the cost!

You can use anything that suits your fancy. Me? I use big assed pieces of felt I buy at Michaels.
