Money orders
I have a couple of auctions up right now on eBay and I had two people contact me about paying via money order instead of paypal. Anybody else get hit up for this option and have any problems with it?

Just make sure they pay you with a USPS Postal Money order (No Walmart, Target, Credit Union..."money orders"), you can bring them to the Post Office to cash them. If they turn out to be bad, you'll know before you send out the item.

Same goes for any other money order or cashiers check ... you give them the full 10 business days to clear! Even if your bank puts them in as cash ... you wait ... I've been paid with both money orders and cashiers checks that turned out to be fake.
Worst case scenario, if you call the issuing bank and give them the id number and the amount, they will tell you if it's legit or not.

I've never had an issue with MOs - but sounds like you've gotten some sound advice
