Big news,De Toro is great but there really isn't anyone else I'd want to do them besides Jackson.

Executive level greed could end up hurting this project.

It doesn't matter who is 'set' to direct with the MGM film division alone being 4.5 billion dollars in debt. To put that into perspective, even Avatar, the biggest worldwide box office film of all time (non adjusted), wouldn't have gotten the film division enough out of the hole to continue business as normal.

Until MGM either gets broken up, starts selling off major pieces of the company and rights properties to raise capital, or else does a split financing deal with another major player, with them putting up the funds to get things rolling, films like The Hobbit and any proposed Bond sequels will remain landlocked.

I mean we're talking about a company that not only can't afford to finance guaranteed money makers like Bond and Hobbit, but which, according to reports, recently shelved the 75 million dollar Red Dawn remake, postponing it indefinitely, because they simply didn't have enough money to even finish the film...

Jackson was the only person that was right for the job in the 1st place...but considering the financial hardships of MGM...not only this project but other fan faves look like they ar headed for the back burner or another production company

Jackson probably has enough money, he should just give them a loaner. Its a sure thing the film will be a giant money maker.

Thank God. Peter Jackson should have been the director from the beginning. I'm a fan of Del Toro and I like his work, but I just didn't have that same excitement for the Hobbit. But now it's been rekindled. I just wish they hurry up and get rolling because Sir Ian McKellen is not getting any younger.
