The ORVILLE
So, I didn't see a thread for this show, I have seen one episode so far (the pilot) but I'm psyched to watch some more. The humor in the show seems very forced, but the actual show, as in the special effects, costumes, alien design, spaceship design, most of the characters, - this is where this series stood out to me. Very impressed with the visual effects. They looked as good and even better than anything you would have seen in Star Trek Voyager for example, and the story was even interesting enough that I'm looking forward to another one soon. Seth McFarlane should realize that this show would be better without dumb jokes every 20 seconds. A few sprinkled in is fine, but the show seems strong enough to actually play out as a lightly dramatic "serious" sci fi series.
Anyone watchin' this one?

I've watched them all so far, the first few episodes were ok as they did seem to force some of the humor, but it does seem that they have toned it down in the last several episodes. The show does kind of remind me of Galaxy Quest.
The episodes have simple entertaining stories which are fun to watch. They just need to stick with the dry humor and stay away from the forced over the top humor they tried on the first few episodes... Where that type of humor works fine on Family Guy it just doesn't work on this show, so I'm glad they're not doing it as much in the newer episodes. And like you said the writing on the episodes are strong enough you don't need that type of humor.
The show is a bust with critics at 19% but viewer reviews are like 96% and the show has great ratings so far... I hope the show stays around for several years...

I like it better than than new Star Trek series. If they took the humor out I think it would have a long TV life. Jon Favreau directed the 1st ep and big names, like Charlize Theron, guest star.

Love it. Look forward to every episode now that they have toned down the comedy a bit.

I'm a fan! I'm pleasantly surprised that they are playing it fairly straight up with some comedic elements. I was afraid it might fall into being a parody of Star Trek.

This is the best Trek show since TNG. Yes, I said it. It feels just like TNG...love the music in it too, so much like TNG. Surprised how much i love it.
