I'm in the market for a new computer...
So what's everyone been getting lately?
PC?
Laptop?
Printer/Scanner?
Brand name/model for each above?
Specs such as:
How many GB of space?
How many GB of RAM?
How many GHz of speed?
You can find your PC's specs by right-clicking on My Computer and hitting Properties. Should be in the General Tab toward's the bottom.
Thanks for any info.

What type of use? Personal? Business? What type of apps do you need to run?

It'd probably be easier to recommend parts if you listed what you're going to use it for. Otherwise, you'll get people who do like heavy 3d modeling recommending parts even if you just want to play Team Fortress 2 (insert whatever you do with your computer instead of that example).

I use it mostly for personal like surfing the web, MS office documents, and photoshop.
Recommendations are fine but I'd also like to know about the last computer every has gotten.

I bought a Dell Inspiron and a real nice flat screen for about $600 last year (they are a lot cheaper now). Does everything I need and I surf, use Office, Photoshop, Quickbooks, Quicken, and even play around with the Lego designer CAD/CAM app. Came with 4 GB, 500+ harddrive, wireless, and plenty of USB/sim card ports. I highly recommend Dell products.

Funnily enough, I have been considering an upgrade as well.
In my case, I am looking for a new desktop computer as I do not really need a new laptop. Historically, I tend to buy about 1 year behind state-of-the-art in order to get a value system. Also, I am a PC Windows buyer and have a tech-savvy friend assemble the system for me so I avoid brand name systems or distributors.
This is what my initial research has come up with;
PROCESSOR Intel® Core™ i7-2600 (8MB Cache) Overclocked Turbo Boost to 3.9GHz
OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English
CHASSIS COLOR Matte Stealth Black Chassis with 875W Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply
MEMORY 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
GRAPHICS CARD 1.25GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 560 Ti
HARD DRIVE 2TB SATA 6Gb/s (7,200RPM) 32MB Cache
SOUND CARD Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi™ Titanium
OPTICAL DRIVE Dual Drives: Blu-ray Disc (BD) Burner (Writes to DVD/CD/BD) and DVDRW
Now, I might go with an I5 processor and a single optical blu-ray reader/burner to save a bit of money. I was interested in getting a solid-state hard drive but that tech is still rather pricey. What I have selected will run me about $1,500.00.

Thanx for the info so far guys. This'll give me an idea on what to look for.
If anyone else wants to chime in, please do so.
I get the impression many more people aren't buying pcs anymore and going with laptops. Is this true?
I think I might get one of each though. Pc for home, laptop for travel since I wont be the only one using the computer at home so there needs to be one there while I'm away with the laptop. Or as I asked before...are laptops replacing pcs at home too?

personally i wouldnt buy anything other then a i7 CPU, cause while i5 is ok and way better then core 2 duos, i7 will last longer for upgrades down the line.
If you are a PC guy and going to be getting windows 7, best to get windows 7 in the 64 bit which you will need at least 8 gigs of ram. This too will last you awhile with programs being made for 64 bit now.
other then that, laptop or desktop is up to you. But more people get laptop these days then desktops, unless you are into gaming and need storage a desktop is the way to go since they can be upgraded.
As for PC latops i dont know much about them, but if you want a desktop that you can build your own way i suggest trying out www.cyberpowerpc.com
With them you can pick and choose parts, cases etc.. that fit your needs rather then getting a cheap dell etc...
