Does any know the exact edition run of the first Magdalena statue?

Does any know the exact edition run of the first Magdalena statue? On more than one occasion, I have read that the entire run of 4000 was never completed. Has this ever been confirmed? Did we get an approximate number of what was actually produced??

From all I've ever been told, that holds true for a lot of the early Moore pieces (including Fathom and Aphrodite IX). However, I do not know how many Mags were actually produced.
