Which Hulk from the comics is the original, Green or Gray? and Why was there a color change?

Short answer: Grey in the first issue, green afterwards because the grey didn't print consistently so Stan Lee said go with another color and they picked green. Later, in IH #324 they brought back the grey Hulk as a separate incaration.

it's interesting that grey was the first colour.

When people think of the hulk, green is the first colour that pops into their head.

that' because, as MoldMaster said, he was only grey for the first issue and then green for decades before the newer grey version was re-introduced

The funny thing was that, when I was a little kid, we had a black & white TV. So I never knew that the HULK was green until I had a sleep-over at my grand parents house. They owned a color TV and it was really freaky to see him green.

After I got into reading comics, I thought that it was ironic that the HULK was originally gray.

Adding to this colorful discussion -- I bought the DVD of the 1978 Hulk TV show and the director said he originally wanted to make his Huk red instead of green because he thought red was a more appropriate color for rage! I'm so glad he stuck with green.

I really love both versions, so when the new fs came out I decided to go with grey since my first fs is green.....

Thanks for the info! Was'nt sure because I am not well versed on comics. Just wanted to make sure I purchased the right color, meaning I just wanted the first HULK.

I saw that interview. Bit surprising that he was thinking about such a radical departure from a well established look.
