Cinemaquette edition size bothering me..

I recently (in April) purchased the T-850 directly from CM for $1200. After being told that it would take 2 to 3 months to arrive (all the stuff about hand making them fresh in my mind), I was amazed when it arrived within 14 days. Now mine is numbered 249 of 1000... To me that means that if CM has been selling them for 2 years and if they are being sold on a "first come, first served basis" CM has only sold 249 of these figures. Based on this it will take CM 3 to 5 years to sell out of the T-850 figures!

I have no plan on ever selling mine but at this rate it will never hold its value. It is like a car... Once you drive it off the lot it loses 20% of its value. Why should someone buy a "used T-850" when they can purchase a brand new one from CM for $1200?

I think that for the price the edition size should only be 500. What does everyone think about this?

No other current collectible company exists in such mystery as CM.

Their inability to get product to the market gets me. One CM was released in all of 2006 (Alien) and one has been released so far in 2007 (Aragorn). Jack Sparrow was supposed to be out a few months ago, now it won't even be out in time for the new Pirates film's premiere. Will it be out in time for SDCC in July? Will the release after Jack, Indiana Jones, see the light of day in 2007?

Pricing is also hindering the CM product. First, the TX was $1000. Then, the T-850 was $1200. Then the T-800, Alien, and Aragorn was $1500. There's rumors that Sparrow and Indy will be $1750. If their prices are leaving out many collectors at $1000, how about $1750?

As for the edition size, considering sales and pricing, the edition size should probably be lowered. Could it be the slow manufacturing of pieces already available are slowing down development of future releases? IMO, 500 of each sounds about right.

I read somewhere that they randomize their edition numbers to be "fair" to collectors. Maybe their own website? I'm not sure, but that was the impression I got, that no run would actually have numbers in order. I remember because I thought it was a very novel approach.

Part of me agrees with the 500 max. I also feel they have to make money to keep up the best work (hands down) and new lic's. Tough call. Art statues go for $1,500-$10,000 run of 5-25. will the market go that way? As long as you love what you paid for does it matter?

Cool statue by the way.

As far as I know, this is not true.

Those of us who bought one early got a low number. The later someone buys one, the number is higher.

I'm not sure there is a strong market for figures that are so detailed and expensive. It seems Sideshow has the right idea with their PF figures.

Yes, and to be honest, I prefer that than Side*** where it is quickly sold out and then you only and some retailers or e-bay with higher prices.

If you want one of these CM, you just have to be patient and spare, that's all. Fair enough to me because, even if for some "1000" is too much, let'see, only 250 guys own that Arnie in the world, and there cannot be no more than a 1000.

Yes, I think the production run should be strategically limited, no more then 500 pcs. OR LESS!
