another recommendation. Voices of a Distant Star. short but sweet! it's a very heartfelt tear jerker. here's the trailer.

i enjoyed the first english dubbed version of Akira. also liked Blood the Last Vampire. we were able to have a special screening of it a few years back with the director. GITS was good too. i haven't gotten into their latest series though.

I'm not a big anime fan but have seen many. Two I highly recommend are:
Giant Robo (the best IMO)
The Big O
Watching Giant Robo is like watching the Marvel Universe come to life. Super powered good guys versus super powered bad guys doing their thing. Some of the best action sequences I've seen in anime. If you love Ninja Scroll, you'll love this even more.

Yeah. Diebuster (Top wo Nerae 2) is the sequel to Gunbuster (Top wo Nerae 1)
If you like Gunbuster you have to see Diebuster
Yes, Gunbuster is one of my favorite productions of all time. Still has the same impact from when I first saw it as a kid.

I finished the Diebuster already, I don't like the robot/character design at first but it gorws on me fairly quick.
The first one is still a better series but Diebuster is also one of the better animes I've seen for years.
The ending is...stirking I say, as shocking as the first one.
Another excellent series anyway!
And I quite like the opening song.

Haha Yeah, Diebuster is very different in style when compared to Gunbuster. Modern Gainax and Old school Gainax
Groooovin Magic...
