Problem with King is his ideas start off great, and turn silly. Dark Tower started very well, but by the end I'd felt like I had read 7 different sorts of book. He's a very descriptive writer though, I can't fault him on that.

JK Rowling is the reverse in my eyes, great ideas with poor execution. And she can't write death or emotion for squat.

The best author I've read in terms of story, description and execution is Robin Hobb. She writes 100 pages where nothing happens and I'm captivated.

Pet Cemetary was pretty close to the book. Save for the Herman Munster character having a wife, the movie was pretty much identical.

Sin City and 300 were close to the books too.

Grisham's The Client was close too.

Good One! Yes that's true and I've always thought that book/movie was one of King's best efforts, along with Misery. Far superior to the silliness of Christine, Cujo, and now the Mist

Didn't Seinfeld do that?

A Stephen King book that is almost word for word to the book is "Firestarter" but its so pooly executed. The acting is corney and silly music.

Just shows that sometimes its not always a good thing to stick to the reference material.

Lord of the Rings is probably the best book-to-movie. Had everything to keep (almost) everyone happy, both veterans and newcomers alike

Mystic River. You see some of the scenes in the movie and think "whoa, that's what it looked like in my head."
