Individuals should be able to use any means to protect their property. Any means. Lots of peoplke say, "it's just stuff, let them have it, then call the cops." What a load of crap. Anyone breaks in my house and they will be on the receiving end of a .45cal slug emanating from my Springfield 1911. I heard that the neighbor whose house was being robbed had asked the fellow to watch his house while he was away, so it became his responsibility.
I'm not voting, VM because I think what was done here was perfect and there is no choice for that.

I say this was too much. First of all, it wasn't his house so he wasn't in any danger. Second, if he shot them in the back then they were running away so it wasn't a matter of self defense. Maybe if you find the full article there is more to the story but based on what is here and the call this was completely unnecessary. The dispatcher told him several times to stay in the house. Now if they had been breaking into his house and he was there then that is a completely different story.

May we assume that the Texan gunslinger kindly asked the outlaws to return them hornswaggled goods prior to blastin' 'em to smithereenees?

I think its a bit too much... if they wouldve been attacking him thats one thing... but he shot both in the back and it wasnt even his house... He shouldve served time for his crime...

Eric,
Would your opinion change if it were your house they were robbing ?
(and what if they knocked over your FF Mini Display with Galactus)

Actually I believe he did tell them(not ask them) to drop the stuff or he would shoot.
