Are Today's Stories Too Long?

I was amazed at how many books that were launched (or re-launched) in the last few months started off with four, five or six-part stories.
I just wonder if that's part of the problem with the decline in comic sales....maybe it's too hard for younger readers to get on board and/or stay focused in this ADD world.
I remember the "old days" when most issues were one or two parts.....a three or four parter was a MAJOR event!
In any case, I think it's a MAJOR mistake to launch a book with a multi-part story line....do two or three shorter stories to better show off what the book's going to be about!

The reason most storyarc are six issues long now is because that is the ideal size for premiere format collected editions. And then combine two of those for twelve issues and you have an Oversized HC. It sucks but that's why they do it.

Makes sense, but that sure is kind of lame....doesn't really lend itself to good story telling....just good padding/filler!

Agreed. Sometimes the story may fit perfectly into six issues, but if a writer is either stretching or cutting a story short just so it works for a collected edition, well that's not cool.

Absolutely!

When in most cases it is clearly they should have been of three or four issues story.

I agree 100 % with you.

And that is why I'm considering to switch to HC/Trade some of my pull list.
