My Dad, who was born in the late 20's, used to say "Boss" & "Chief" all the time when talking to guys. "Thanks, chief" & "Boss, can I get a pack of smokes?", were terms I heard all the time growing up. I just assume they were terms of his era. Quick little signs of respect I always thought.

i usually say hey
In texas alot of people will say mr, mrs, miss and your first name..I do not
and appreciate ch-ya..bugged the crap out of me, because it was for even the smallest things
Lived in california for 19 years used man, and dude, dude usually being pissed off like I was just cut in front of or pushed
That is about it
bro is an odd one, I don;t know how to respond to it, I don't especially like being called bro, online because I always picture an italian or some lunk saying it..and usually sounds disrespectful. The popularity of it weirds me out, I couldnt pull it off.

I talk this way, lol. It's a habit I suppose. I usually say "brother" for the sake of not even knowing it because growing up, that's how I noticed how my oldest brother talked to his friends so I picked it up by the nature around me haha. I say it in a complimentary way, though. Made a tons of friends over my lifetime and I come off using it as a form of respect, if that makes sense haha. Probably not

I don't mind bro on the Forum or anywhere else but don't recall anyone calling me that. In fact I like it. Can't see what's wrong with it.
What I find a bit.....ah...different is Girlfriend. Just heard Harry Connick use it on American Idol as I was clicking through. Seemed he was trying hard to be oh so cool and it seemed yucky. I know Celine Dion used that years ago but well...that was Celine and overdone yucky-ness is sort of understandable. lol

'My friend' is another one that makes me laugh. Unlike 'Bro', I don't mind it that much. For some reason every time I hear 'my friend', I can't help but think of Sallah from the Indiana Jones movies or some other Middle Eastern dude. Too funny! No hard feelings, JP. Haha!
