Well said! Marvel has Kevin Feige. Lucasfilm has Kathleen Kennedy to adhere to these principles.
Better check one's ego at the door in the House of Mouse.

the way TFA turned out was intentional, while i still liked it i think they realize perhaps that was not the direction to take. i believe based on what we have seen from TLJ it appears they have coarse corrected and taken the trilogy in a new and different direction
i also think that JJ might perhaps look at this as a chance for redemption and to truly make an original SW movie as a massive fan himself. im excited to see what they come up with but im out if it ends with a party at the ewok village...

Prolly not. We're talking about a guy who turned Star Trek into Star Wars.

This is great news for two reasons. JJ has the proven directing chops to handle this and I for one would love to see what HE can actually do with a SW film. I don't think the template put in place by Lucasfilm for TFA allowed him much creative freedom.

They need to get rid of Kathleen Kennedy as she is pretty much running the show and direction of this franchise. The Force Awakens was her vision and given so many directors can't work with her tells me she's a bit of a dictator.
I think JJ Abrams did a good job with The Force Awakens given his constraints from Kennedy but the overall story arc was pretty bad and repetitive of the older movies. I know it made over 2 billion at the box office but that's due to it being Star Wars and the original cast coming back. It was successful in spite of her trying to control it.

I'm glad JJ is directing this. As has been said, he's a capable director, knows what he's doing behind the camera. Ultimately though, the story is where how great the movie turns out will be determined. I don't know what TLJ has in store for us, but I know the passing of Carrie Fisher might have put the production's backs against the wall. That very well could have put them in a deep corner they need to write themselves out of. From what I've heard this trilogy would have each film's underlying story be about one of the OT's heroes. TFA was Han's story, TLJs is Luke's and Ep. IX was supposed to be Leia's. I have hope they were left with enough to work with to be able to give this trilogy a satisfying conclusion.
