I wished I knew that if you ignore him and come back later after killing the boss in the area that he is docile and nice and you can talk to him. I probably wouldn't have fought him. But I had the same problem, he rolled off the top of the roof and killed himself lol

Ringing him out is the best way to deal with him. For an early game NPC he is really strong.

Doesn’t he become hostile again if you continue killing the beasts is the area? Excuse me if my memory is fuzzy as it’s been a while since I played it. I’m tempted to dive back in for a quick play through.

Yeah it's a pain in the a$$, you can't attack any beasts. Kill a certain boss and take the back entrance. Then basically run towards his area and talk to him. Answer his question then presto. Problem is sometimes as your running towards his tower a beast might die from falling and he instantly becomes hostile
