it detects these weird ass alien/extradimensional beings I think (I watched like 2 minutes of a trailer so I don't know which).

For me, it's too early to care for these characters or have attachment because the game is not even out. I see Norman Reedus carrying a baby, but it's not "officially" Norman Reedus so it's just weird that they are announcing these really expensive statues for a game still very well in development.

For the moment it remains a mystery.
During one of the DS videos the word 'PORTER' can be seen written on the Sam Porter Bridges outfit. I'm guessing the baby in a container is being delivered. The purpose of the game (could be) to see that the baby arrives to its destination alive and well. Maybe the future of mankind depends on it, as something big, something other worldly is going down

The baby is inside Norman Reedus's throat.

From the second trailer, the baby seems to power the shoulder mounted detection device and also act as extra lives.

Our team made the baby pod, the cases, the gun, the hands, and both pairs of his boots. We also provided the 3d print of his head for VVDFX to do a silicone version. It was a ton of fun to do something so different from what we normally do. Very challenging but damn fun!

Since Prime 1 are on good terms with Kojima Productions, it makes sense that Prime 1 will deliver Death Stranding pieces at some point in the future
