Painting Super sculpey firm statues
Hi all
I have been practicing with sculpey firm and am quite confident with the armature/sculpting/baking phases. I mainly do superhero pieces. Where I come undone is in the painting afterwards
I don't have an airbrush so relying on conventional brushwork
I used to use acrylics but they dry very fast and I prefer oils in this regard. However, my oil paint ends up cracking after drying. I read about the fat over lean technique and mixed it with medium which solves the cracking issue, but this just makes the surface glossy which isn't always suitable as it makes everything look wet
I like the long drying time with oils as it gives me a lot of time to blend shading etc, do any of you have any tips? I also have experimented with the primer coat but I lose detail with gesso and have heard anything out of a can contains chemicals that don't react well to sculpey
Many thanks
