yeah NRS said they wanted to make Aquaman really good and he did, hes easily top tier, maybe the best in the game. Im just playing battles mode on easy to get a feel for each character, most characters I fight on easy just stand there, when I reach aquaman he starts tossing me around like nobodys business 
mission accomplished NRS!

I think it's the reach advantage with the trident that puts him over the top. Can't get close to him.

I am struggling pulling off a few combos,I know my fingers are quick enough but it just doesn't flow through the combat.Fight system feels a little clunky and I Play MK9.

I bought the game at Toy R US yesterday and you get a $20 Batman figure and the game guide for free. $45 value.
The game guide tells you what to expect from each character. They say that Aquaman is a good beginner character.
They also seem to indicate that Black Adam, Sinestro and Green Lantern are the best ones.

I can see that. I haven't played much with Black Adam or Sinestro yet but I do Like Hal.
I stink with Superman and Wonder Woman. The combos still feel a little strange to me but the more I play the better I'm getting with them.
I started some of the missions and there really is a lot of content in this game. The stay away from Catwoman for 20 seconds w/o being hit drove me nuts for awhile.
I want classic skins!

I played all of story mode and out of the forced characters you have to play. I enjoyed Green Arrow, Aquaman and Joker the most. I wasn't any good with Wonder Woman or Superman. I want to play arcade mode with Hawkgirl and Raven today.

I think Lobo was a decent choice for the first DLC
Some I hope to see:
Manta
Grodd
Bizarro (this one is easy)
Supergirl
Black Carney
Zatanna
They have Scarecrow in one of the missions. He doesn't fight but he's in there.

Im hoping the other DLC characters are Poison Ivy, Black Canary, and Martian Manhunter. I'd also love to see Firestorm but that's a long shot!
