"Violence doesn't solve anything? How about World War I? World War II? Star Wars? Every Super Bowl? Who says violence doesn't solve anything?"

OK, I'll just assume I was right on that last one and throw a question out there.

This 84 year old still living comedic actor made dozens of appearances on various shows from the 1960's to the 1990's. His earlier fans knew him best for his roll as a corporal in a comedic military series. Younger fans know him from his fictional acting school depicted in a long running Fox sitcom of the 80's and 90's.

You are thinking of Larry Storch, from F-Troop. He's done many a guest shot (all aboard the Love Boat!), and in Married: With Children, Kelly Bundy was a graduate of the Larry Storch School of Acting, for which Mister Storch appeared only once.

Okay. I promise that I'll come up with a question. Really.

Okay. I think I've got it...maybe.

When this show premiered in the 70s, there was concern from the studio heads that produced it that, given the inital premise of new divorce, viewers would fear that the lead actress/character had left her husband on an earlier, wildly popular sitcom. So, the premise was changed to a broken engagement, and the show went on to great success, spawning three spin-offs, one of which was a 'sequel' and one which spun off its own one-episode spin-off.

For the point, name the original sitcom and its star, the three spin-offs, and the spin-off-spin-off that failed, despite its focus on a very funny character.

I think this one is right in my wheelhouse SD. My mom was a junkie of all these shows when I was a kid, back then only 1 tv so I had to watch them too.

The show was the Mary Tyler Moore Show, starring Mary Tyler Moore. There were actually 4 spinoffs. Rhoda, Lou Grant, the Betty White Show, and Phyllis. The Spinoff that had a spinoff was the Ted Knight Show from Lou Grant. The show that caused the premise to be changed to avoid the divorce question debacle was the Dick Van Dyke Show.
