Criterion specializes in art house and obscure films and their collection is dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions of the highest technical quality, with supplemental features that enhance the appreciation of the art of film. Their releases are genrally more expensive that standard releases but a few times a year they have good sales like the 50% off @ B&N in November that Tony is referring to.

Honestly there have been a few, but not lately, the most currently well known movie would probably be The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt film) There used to be more mainstream films and mainstream classics, when the collection was on laserdisc. This series was created for laserdisc, as a way of producing special editions for movie collectors who wanted more than just the movie on VHS. These were the 1st time films were released letterboxed, and with commentaries and extras. They would release all kinds of movies, not just foreign and art films. The Wizard of Oz, Blade Runner, some of the Connery Bond films, Dracula, Armageddon and on and on were part of the collection. What happened was that when DVD took off and became mainstream, the studios decided to cash in on their own films, rather than letting Criterion get the large profit from their releases. So, the studios started taking back their most popular films from Criterion leaving them where they are now, releasing mainly foreign and art films.

I'm gonna wait. Who knows, maybe Amazon will price match.

I had been wondering why you don't post the Fry's weekly specials anymore.
