Melancholia (2011) - 3/10
Yet another pretentious mess from Lars von Trier. I don't know why I even give this guy's films a chance anymore.

Saw Hobbit 3d on Thursday night; I was struggling to stay awake (long day), but the bud I went with loved it.
8/10
I need to see it again... I loved the cinematography, but I think I need a second viewing to take it all in... they really crammed a LOT of elements into this one film.

Hobbit in 3D IMAX 48fps:
Finally got to see this in 48fps IMAX 3D. While it certainly has some advantages over 24fps specifically panning sequences and it appears to enhance 3D and in particular depth perception I still prefer the cinematic feel to 24fps. Alot of the imagery felt like a demo for a 4k ultra high definition shot for a documentary. It just did not look right for me. I did think the 3D was fantastic and certainly close to Avatar in its achievement. Interesting experiment but I'll be watching the sequels in traditional 24fps.
For me this is not how movies should look.

It felt "off" sometimes to me, as well... innovative, but the concept didn't hit the mark in every sequence.

I was half expecting to hear Richard Attenborough.

This Is 40. 11/10. (I am 43, married, with teenage kids and have somw rough times. It was if they followed me around with a camera. If you are not the same, you will probably not like it as much)
