I guess it's safe to assume they painted the piece green then did the Ivy after, painting the raised areas, while not focusing on the sides of the raised areas, as that would take a lot longer. The results are good, by factory standards.
In the hands of a skilled painter, with a steady hand, not to mention plenty of spare time, the paint app could be taken to another level where the Ivy is concerned.

Mine came out, I think, very close to the prototype so I'm very happy, here's some pics of my setup but now I'm gonna go watch some SWAMP THING!
