If it sucks, it seems they'll just arbitrarily pick a number from 1-5 sometimes 6 with no obvious differentiation.
The 5 point system just lumps all the suckage into 1 number (or 2) depending on how you want to look at it.
1 Poor
2 Fair
3 Average (Good)
4 Great
5 Awesome (Perfect)
Alright, I'm stepping off now...

Under my system any movie that doesn't have ewoks, Julia Roberts, or an improbable love story can score no lower than a 3.

Not that I agree with that reasoning. I like the 10-scale rating with no half numbers.

Man Of Steel. 8/10 or 3/5 or 1/3 or 5/7 or how ever you want to look at it.
just a few things i would have liked to have seen or done differently. thats why i gave it an 8. if those things were what i wanted to see i would have easily given this film a 9 of 10.
movie was good. nbr3bagshotrow, you were right. fight scenes were killah! a few aspects about the film i would have liked to have seen done a bit differently. but set those aside. and i really did like everything about the film. with the exception of Superman's suit and his height :P...

I need the half point. Some movies just aren't nines, and they are better than a eight. I've considered doing an actual score out of 100, but won't because that is to much thinking.

Pacific Rim - 8
Too fast paced with the change of camera angles makes some parts uncomfortable at points. You can't even make out what's what.
Great movie though.

Despicable Me 2
5/10
A string of flat gags with an okay story mixed in that lacked most of the charm present in the first. I'm surprised this movie managed to hold its ground against Monsters University.
