The Grand Budapest Hotel latest outing from Wes Anderson. I've always found his imaginative use of props and cinematography to be quite unique and brilliant. But the star of this movie is Ralph Fiennes who is outstanding. Solid supporting cast. 8/10

The last Amicus produced film I needed to complete my collection, this one's the best, imo. Five men thrown together in an unusual circumstance, this film follows the Amicus theme & feels just like the EC Horror Comics of the era. Peter Cushing plays Dr. Terror, a Tarot Card reader, who, while sharing a car on a English passenger train, reads the 5 fortunes of the men who ride with him with each reading becoming a chapter in the movie. Voodoo (with just the coolest swinging 60's, London Jazz supper club complete with guest musicians, The Tubby Hayes Quintet whom are excellent), Vampires, Werewolves, a revenge-driven severed hand, & a creeping garden, intelligent vine make up the horror. Christopher Lee, a very young Donald Southerland & three other recognizable actors make up the travelers. The stories tie together for one last spooky reveal at movie's end. I saw this one as a kid & it stuck with me thru the years. Whenever Lee & Cushing share a movie, it's going to be special & this one sure is.

I saw this for the first time last month so I probably missed it, but was it ever explained how the mistaken identity happened in the first place? Why was Thornhill believed to be the other guy, Kaplan?

It was, but not any more. I found a copy on ebay, but you can probably find one at a Con thru one of those obscure-movie DVD sellers. Most other Amicus movies are available, but, for some reason, this one isn't anymore. I've heard rumors of a re-release, but I got tired of waiting & found a used copy. I've probably reviewed most of the Amicus stuff here, they're just great, old-school, British Horror movies. Cushing & Lee teamed up in quite a few. TCM showed it this past Halloween season.

In the first part of the movie at the restauraunt, there is a page for the 'imaginary" guy but thornhill gets up to call his mother. Thats how the mistaken identity happens.

Ah, thanks. That explanation just raised my rating of the movie from 8/10 to 9/10.
