Most of the time you can only make so many copies before the molds to go crap, get warped or brake/chip out getting imperfections that can't be cleaned up.
That or who ever was cleaning up the castings before paint got lazy. But with so many of these being produced its expected.

My edition piece is 279 out of 5000. The left ear on my statue is a mess, just like Gothamite's piece. There's also a black blotch on the Red Bat symbol on the tip of the baseball bat. Considering my piece is produced fairly early on, it's not a mould issue here, just shoddy work from the person/team in charge of this statue. You gotta be really lucky to get a flawless piece....if one exists.

Having a low number on a statue means pretty much nothing. They make them and put them in batches and number them later. They could have numbered the last one off the line starting with 0001. The first one could be 5000 depending on which batch they start with.
They are just an edition size, not the order they are made.
