Salem's Lot (1979) - 8/10 - I watch a lot of oldish horror movies & recently caught this 70's chestnut on-demand. Sure it's full of 70's actors, 70's haircuts, & 70's melodrama, but with a few exceptions, I can't think of a 35+ year old, or older vampire flick (count Yorga & a few Lee/Hammer movies being exceptions), a made-for-tv-movie no less, with scarier vampires. I remember loving the book, but this flick was what I was 1st exposed to & it holds up very well. W/ Halloween pretty close, I recommend this one as a movie to kick things off. On Encore on-demand thru Sept. if you're interested.

Salem's Lot scared the you know what out of me. Especially the boy floating at the window scene. This is a truly terrifying horror movie IMO.

For a tv movie, it was way above what you would expect.

It was. Salem's Lot was a novel by King that's excellent. I remember also reading a short-story by King in one of his collections, which had something to do w/ a broken down car being somewhere near the town of Salem's Lot after the novel (& movie) take place. A recall the driver & his wife seeing a little girl running across the snow yet leaving no footprints (she was a vampire). Does anyone remember this short story & in which collection it was written for? I'd love to re-read it.

The re-do w/ Rob Lowe a few years back was good, but nowhere near as good as the original David Soul one.
