You need to think about the equipment you might attach to it. I you think you may have an up-converting dvd player, a Blu ray Player (or PS3), an HD-DVD (or a 360), and a cable/sat box in the future it's worth going for.
I'm definitely not using all mine right now but I bought this reciever as a "fuutre resistant" model." If you get a receiver with two in, one out you could always buy an HDMI switcher to add an input. However, a problem that may arise is if some equipment doesn't "handshake" properly with the switcher.
BTW, for what it's worth the receiver I got has a room equalization feature to help counteract less-than-perfect speaker placement in a room, and also has phase control to eliminate standing waves. Sounds gimicky but my wife notices the difference so their must be sometihing to it.
