I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

You are so right on how fast people go through those things. I used to manage a grocery store and every Thursday (payday at the plant down the street) people would come in and drop hundreds of dollars on lotto, scratch offs, etc. They would scratch them off and, if they didn't win anythgin, would come right back for more telling me they were sure something was about to "hit". Got to a point that they would ask me "what scratch game has hit today" so that that they could avoid that game. It is very addicting for some people - kind of sad IMO

yep, exactly. We kept track of how much this one guy spent and extrapolated it out for a year and it was like 12 grand or something and this was 15 years ago. We knew the ballpark of what he made and this comprised a huge percentage of his income from what we could tell. The ONLY way this guy would come out ahead is if he hit the state lottery. Funny thing is, he spent most of his money playing pick 3 and scratch off where his potential payout was pretty low.

yeah man i totaly see it - they buy the "cheaper" ticket thinking they arent spending that much but buy so much of them that the money they blow every day/week/year is way more then they will ever win
its like when u see a state lotto get to a huge sum and ppl go insane and spend like $500 on tickets and dont win a cent back
lol if the state didnt get the money lotto would be illegal
