Neal Adams Commission Prices

8.5"x 11
Bust (head and Shoulders) - $500
1/2 Figure -$700
Full Figure - $1000
2 character Bust (head and Shoulders) - $900
1/2 Figure -$1200
Full Figure - (Neal can't do 2 figures on one page this size. It's just to small of a space)

11"x14" (These are only pre order. Neal does not bring 11"x14" paper to the shows)
Bust (head and Shoulders) - $700
1/2 Figure -$900
Full Figure - $1200
2 character Bust (head and Shoulders) - $1200
1/2 Figure -$2000
Full Figure - $2400

As a special for shows, Neal does a profile on his convention sketch paper for $200. it's size is the same as those blank comic covers.
These can be pre-ordered too

I have talked to Mr. Adams a couple of times at shows and have found it to be an enjoyable experience both times.
Here is the commission I received.

Are you saying that you paid over $5000 for that 3 character piece? Although it is nice, that's for sure.

Neal Adams is a legend in the comics industry and easily in anyone's top 5 best comic artist of all-time. Compared to his peers, he is still alive and kicking and doing commissions.

He can price any way he wants since art is not mass produced. He just needs enough clients willing to pay and fill up his openings. So rather than price lower and have 10 people a month willing to pay those prices, maybe he chose to price higher because only 1 person per month would be willing to take the plunge and that is exactly what he needs.

$2000 for one drawing a month is better for the artist than getting the same $2000 total if he'd charge $200 for a drawing and get 10 requests a month. He has earned it and deserves it for as long as there are people interested and willing to pay the price.

If only he did 11 x 17 with backgrounds, I'd probably be in line for a commission.

But he doesn't need to be a complete ass to fans. That's what hurts him, not his prices.

Based on the price sheet a single full figure on an 11x14 is $1200 so list price would be $3600.

Yup, my bad math! That is still soooo far out of my league. If nothing else, it's interesting to look around this site and see what some people pay for commissions and pages. Big money.
