I was really digging it when it was a WIP, I wanted to get it...but in the end I didnt because the face just didnt sell me...looked a little too manga to me for some reason, also a little too overkill and to much generic sameness on the skulls.
Yet on some days I go back and fourth on whether to get this or not...maybe some day.

The way I heard it, coughing up the cash to be an official Conan licensee was their best available option after certain...concerns were raised by certain interested parties.

Or at least so I've been told by someone who has regular dealings with Paradox (who currently owns the Robert E Howard character library) anyhow.

That may or may not be true, I have no evidence one way or the other, just passing along the scuttlebutt because I found it kind of interesting, but the person who told me is usually pretty trustworthy so I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was in fact truth in it. Even more so given that Paradox have a reputation of being pretty litigious, and that this piece definitely draws strong influence from some famous Conan artworks...

Not that it matters to me one way or the other, from a collector perspective. Personally from the shoulders down I quite like it. Unfortunately (for me) I really strongly dislike the face and weirdly shaped hair hat, so that killed my interest. If it had a better and less weird looking head sculpt I'd be all over this. Oh well, to each their own.

As a Conan collector though, I'll still be interested to see what else they do come up with, now that they are an official licensee.

The overuse of generic skulls would've made sense if this were a Predator statue. The face and hair are very disappointing...This is very unimpressive work...Especially when compared to CS Moore's Conan statues

Lets hope for an improvement for the next installments in this line

Interesting, thanks! Here's to hoping other parties don't see the Achilles, lol

I wouldn't go so far as feminine but I did think it had kind of a Tarzan vibe to it. I kind of like it but don't think I will get it as I have so much other stuff I want to get right now.

As far as I know there isn't an "achillles" property, other than specific movie depictions. The reason there is a required "Conan" license is the REH estate had rights to Howards creation in the 1930's. Achilles is thousands of years old and nobody has rights to him except if you were to try to put out say a Brad Pitt version or something.

Tarzan good call, I was about to say it reminds me of characters in Apocalypto. I like many others grew up reading Conan shirt-stories, admiring Frazetta art and of course reading savage sword magazines This statue is a far cry from my Conan roots.
