Ebay has changed some policies, in that it's cheaper to post an item (sometimes free) at whatever cost you want. They then take more out of the selling price.
So...it might not cost anything to put it on ebay for $1000 and see if anyone bites. You can always bring it down to $500 or less later...

Actually Ebay gives you 5 free postings a month. They take about 9% of the money but only up to $20. So it's actually a deal for high priced items.

I know I know! It's not my piece, as I stated in the original post.
The piece belongs to a friend. I told him exactly what you guys said (which I truly do appreciate), and I did research on prices for him. He said "It doesn't hurt to try", so, there ya go!
I'm not sure why he believes it would sell for anywhere near that price. But like he said, it doesn't hurt to try and it didn't cost me anything to list it for him.

wow at that price you can do a 2 charachter full body with backgrounds in pencils and still have a grand left over.
I'm curious on where your friend got 2500.
