I picked up New Crusaders Vol. 1: Rise of The Heroes last week. This is the first book with the characters back under Archie/Red Cirle, and it was weird. The story is extremely dark - a surprising amount of violence, blood, and death. But the artwork is simple happy manga-inspired stuff that has no place in a story like this. I'll stick around for volume 2, as the artist for that arc is much more appropriate for the material, but I honestly don't know what to make of this series.

In stores this week - New Crusaders: Legacy, an almost-200-page collection of classic Mighty Crusaders stories from the '80s for $16.99. The stories are set in a framing sequence featuring the New Crusaders as they learn of their parents' adventures from The Shield. It features work by Ditko, Morrow, Toth, Infantino, NiƱo, et al., with a great cover by Jerry Ordway.

So far, this is your best chance to check out some classic work featuring these characters. I can't tell what the plans are at Archie for further reprints, if any.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

I'm really looking forward to it. The Ordway cover is so much better than the one shown for the solicitation.
