I thought Joppula was spot on with his analysis.
At a basic level, Capcom and Sony are Japanese companies. They prefer to do business with each other. Additionally, all Xbox systems (Xbox 1, 360, One) have sold horribly in the East.
Capcom has a history with exclusives (Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Dead Rising), so one more isn't a surprise (although I questioned it with Street Fighter, initially).

We all knew this was going to happen so I went a bit nuts in the Black Friday sales.
For now I'll be happy with TLOU remastered and Guilty Gear Xrd

That...and Sony pulled up to Capcom headquarters with dump trucks full of cash. That's the only reason third party exclusives happen.

True enough. That's the WHY. I was mainly talking about the WHO.

WHY - because dump trucks of money were paid to secure an exclusive.
WHO - could have been MS, but they likely preferred doing business with Sony.
Pure conjecture, but I doubt MS wouldn't have at least made some kind of offer.

Ah, so you're assuming both made offers and Capcom chose Sony over MS. There's no evidence to suggest that's the case as far as I'm aware. Conjecture for...the sake of conjecture?
I was looking at the sales figures of SF4 on the PS3 and 360 and was surprised to see that it sold 2.8 million copies on the 360 and 4 million on PS3. Not a small percentage of total sales. The One doesn't have the install base the 360 had, but I see a lot of people saying that fighting games haven't sold on xbox and this exclusivity deal was inevitable. I just don't see that. If Capcom is a business like any other that's trying to make money, this is a bad move unless Sony made an offer they couldn't refuse...enough cash to make the massive loss of sales worth it.

What better time for conjecture, than when a deal is made and the details aren't known?

That too, is an assumption that many are making, yes. Makes sense to me.
What specifically were you surprised about, regarding the sales figures?

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.
