I think the problem with Franco is more in the roles he chooses than his actual range/talent level. Give him the right material and I think he's fine. I'm not worried about him here in the least.

There's valid concern here.
This is an Alien film, no one needs to be "moved" by anyone's performance. So to that end I would mention Rise of the Planet of the Apes. He was the leading man of the film and I never once thought "this guy is so dumb, I can't take him seriously enough to enjoy this film". He was completely believable and not at all distracting.

IMDB listings don't mean much. IMDB often has errors and is updated by rumor. Franco may only be in the Last Supper teaser. I don't recall seeing him in the first trailer and someone else is being called "captain". He's heading to cryosleep sick. I have a feeling he won't be waking up. He may be in the movie, but I don't think it will be for long.

Not sure it wa mentioned, the Last Supper prologue with Franco isn't part of the movie and was directed by Luke Scott

That's interesting and actually kind of a cool marketing trick. I assumed this scene was from the film.

Franco's sleep chamber malfunctions and then they jettison his body into space, only then realizing that he was still alive. The film then shows his body floating in space for 15 minutes.

Wow, I can't believe I saw the 1st Alien with my Dad when I was 16 & now I'm in my early/mid 50's (older than my dad was when we went) & they're still making them. What a long lasting concept.

On a somewhat related, and sad note. Bill Paxton passed away today due to surgery complications, he was 61.

This looks like the perfect culmination of Prometheus and ALIEN.
