Good question. According to a few fan sites that year pops up. Personally I question it as well and think the time and even the planet are intentionally ambiguous. I think showing how the Engineers brought life to otherwise lifeless planets is all that really matters.

Same . The only reason is because the David specifically talk about the Engineers being pissed off or wanting to destroy us 2000 years ago in the movie and they were referencing the crucifixion Of Jesus

Yeah, so 93 AD makes sense if we're to believe David. It also opens up some interesting speculation in regards to a connection between Jesus and the Engineers.
