I agree. From the front view he looks pretty much like a charicature of himself but from the profile view he looks good. Great detail too, hair and robe!

It looks really good, although the pose could have been better, such as a lightsaber wielding Qui Gon.

I think a break from lightsabers is fine. There are already 4 lightsaber wielding busts in the line alone. These are BUSTS!

Yeah I'm usually down for Lightsabers too but I think this piece captures Qui-Gon quite well so I'm happy with it. Besides I'd guess quite a few of the future Jedi mini-busts (if GG ever gets around to doing more) will have their saber's ignited so at least we know we'll have some variety.

I disagree about the eyes. They are wide open, while the pictures you're comparing them too are most closed. Check out this picture:
