I find it funny that a character created by Rob Liefeld by piecing together Deathstroke & Spider-Man is this popular. I bet if I emo-ized Wolverine & put his claws in a slightly different spot, folks would eat it up like hot-cakes! Oh, wait...
Deadpool is unique in the fact that he finds the comic book norm funny. Like the action pose, or the thought bubble, usually these are intense moments that clarify the characters situation and state of mind, yet in deadpools case it clarifies nothing what so ever. He makes fun of the writers, the readers and the other characters. That's what makes him so popular.

I like how he knows he is in a comic.
Didn't he say something to a character recently about being in "His book"
It's called breaking the 4th wall, i.e speaking to the reader, there is massive rumours running around that he will be doing this in his up coming movie. I can't wait, I think the fact that Ryan Reynolds is a massive Deadpool fan, plus the fact that they are allowing him to influence the making is going to help improve it greatly.

Talking about films, look at my other thread lol.
I knew there was a term for it but couldn't remember it
